In case you noticed on Techshop schedule, I've reserved a room for
another Arduino meetup next Saturday. My apologies for the short
notice! Also if you saw it on the events page, please note that the
events page does not have the correct date, it should state Saturday
the 10th not Tuesday the 13th.

As usual, attendance is free and open to everyone, you do not have to
be a TechShop member to attend. Bring your projects to work on or
show off, bring your curiosity and questions, as well as your advice
and knowledge to share.

Hope to see you all there!

Talked to some folks about using AVR's with CAN as a basis for an
arduino clone. Someone seems to have already done it:

The problem is that the company doesn't seem to be selling them any more - all their ebay/store links were dead when I tried...  I've got a CAN breadboard/shield design based on their schematic I'll put up on BatchPCB next week...

Hardware should be pretty straight forward. Like you said, you can run (most?/all?) through hole avrs on a breadboard. More interesting is whether they tweaked the arduino bootloader and core. And if they provide a CAN library. Haven't checked either yet.
