FIRST TECHNITES OPEN MEET 24/08/2012, 5:30 PM
Technites is basically a committee that hosts shows after most of the events are over. The members work on either games or additions to the Psychedelic Room.
What was done in Technites last year:-
Psychedelic Room:- ( A visual experience! Music, lights!)
1) Waterfall- It is a music equalizer, using signal processing to control motors which propel thermocol balls upwards.
2) Octet- 8x8x8 LED cube. Various patterns are formed on it in response to music.
3) Liquid light- An touch-sensitive LED matrix which lights up in various patterns.
4) Shadow LED- Uses image processing. A matrix of LEDs, when an object is placed in front the area other than it’s shadow on the matrix is lit up.
5) Emotion reactor- A matrix of LEDs that changes colour based on the expression of the person in front of it.
6) 3D projection- Projection on 3D objects.
Games:-
1) DDR/ Footloose- A grid of 4x4 tiles. They light up in a random sequence and if stepped on when lit, the player gets a point.
2) Laser tanks- Two tanks, with attached lasers and sensor arrays ‘attack’ each other with laser beams. Their movement is controlled by a remote.
3) Arcade- The general computer games played in an arcade like environment with joysticks and buttons.
4) Kinect based game- A game using a Kinect (a camera and a proximity sensor) to detect motion of joints of the user’s body.
5) Skeetshooter- A game where balls with sensors embedded in them were thrown and shot with a laser gun.
6) Megapixel- A huge LED matrix, hung over a building, over which games like Tetris, DX-Ball, Car Race, etc. can be played, from a distance.
7) Contraption- A big mechanical structure where the ball moves in a circuit triggering various other actions.
Games and Psychedelic room displays for this Engineer:-
A lot of volunteers are required, especially for Blitzkrieg , Megapixel, Contraption
1) Floating Bulb- wirelessly powered and suspensed. magnet for levitation. Requires-Microcontroller coding, soldering. (Bhuvana)
2) Fruit Ninja- Fruit Ninja on a large scale. Using a Wii nunchuck to act as the blade. Requires- Coding, mainly for interfacing. (Leela)
3) Labyrinth- Using the Keyglove to control the movement of a maze. Requires- Mechanical structure refinement. (Thejaswi)
4) Laser Harp- Cordless harp. Will be played by blocking the laser beam. (Amber)
5) Theremin- Antennas and receivers- Play music by moving hands in front of the antenna. Analog electronics (Varun, Adarsh)
6) Blitzkrieg- Like laser-tag, the players wear jackets with light sensors and attack other players with laser guns and grenades. Needs electronics and mechanical structure design. (Adarsh) Design of arena- (Soumya)
7) Megapixel- Electronics, Coding, Mechanical structure (Pavan)
8) Strong Man- High striker, the carnival game where a pad is hit with a hammer and the force is measured and a proportional output is given. (Divya)
9) Image Processing games- Air Sketching, etc. (Himanshu)
Work mainly starts during October. Try not to take part in too many events! :P
SHOW:-
The main attraction! Please put up ideas for shows, anything cool and that lasts for more than half an hour. Shows which can be customized are good too.
