(b). life for an Indian in Israel to spend years, with family?
(c). I would happy to contact a fellow indian joined for PhD in Technion and would like to know procedure starting please.

Hello Matam,

I am Stephen, a PhD student at the faculty of medicine, Technion .
a) It is advisable to ask your Professor about the tuition fee because for me the PhD tuition fee is covered in the scholarship and I don't have to pay it separately and I believe this is the case for all PhD students. For a single person 1000 USD ( 3400 shekels) per month is enough. PhD students in Technion get rooms in the Technion dormitories- main campus. The room rent including electricity bill for a single person is approximately 800 shekels per month. For Food, Insurance, etc together another 800 shekels would be a reasonable estimate. If you are coming with your family, you have two options. one, dorms for families ( rent is approx. 1700 shekels per month) two, renting an apartment outside the campus but the rent (2400 shekels) including electricity bill & tax may be around 2800 shekels per month; Note that you can get a student discount on tax.
b) There are about 60 Indian students in Technion and many more in Haifa university. Most of them whom I know are happy.
c) As an international student applying for a PhD, usually they ask for GRE General test score. Your Professor or the International student advisor from the graduate school would be able to let u know if u really need the GRE score. Your Professor would direct you to the concerned administrative official ( mostly, either the Graduate Secretary of the Faculty or the International student Advisor ) and that person will let you know how to proceed.

Regards,
Stephen

Dear Stephen,

        Greetings!

I am happy for your kind reply, information and time put up to answer these queries. More or less, I have found the details, answers, information I was in the need just now through your reply only. This has put my confidence at heights higher than before. I am grateful to you in this  regard.

The professor whom I was in conversation, had supported and asked me to get accepted as PhD student. Based on your information, may I have to ask him to direct me to the concerned administrative professional? or  have to put the paper application ? Further, the professor has informed me that the scholarship amount  1000$-1500$ per month what he may offer if I am selected. Hope, with this I can meet all my requirements at Technion.

I am glad that you mentioned about GRE score which I don't have (As per website information, GRE is specifically mentioned for PhD Electrical). Understood that it is Professors discretion to ask for it. Hope, he may not ask me for GRE. This is a kind of relief and I am thankful for your reply for mentioning the same. Adding to this, your reply has gave me a vital information about the procedure and administrative channel in particular.

Thanking you for time and kind reply

Regards
Matam Manjunath

Hello Matam,

I think it is better for you to contact your Professor first and ask him, who you need to contact in order to start the application process. As I said earlier, mostly he would direct you to the concerned administrative official. And that official may probably tell you about filling up the application kit and the requirements associated with it.
Feel free to ask if you have questions and I & the others here can try to answer based on what we know.

Regards,
Stephen.

Dear Stephen,

Thanking for reply in no time. Yes, I have sent the Professor an e-mail just now asking for administrative link. He replied immediately and asked me to check process at website and nothing more about administrative official.

However, on other side, Gabriela Laufmann, the International Student Advisor of the Technion for graduate studies has replied me in response to my questions mailed here separately. Also, she has sent me a questionnaire asking about academic background.

Thanking you Stephen for kind reply and time you are showing toward my emails.

Regards

Hi Matam,

Gabriela Laufmann is the right contact for international PhD applications. Just go on with her. She is very helpful, which I can tell you from my experience.

All the best
