Hi all,
Two quick questions regarding PBC fellowship.
1. Is it possible to apply for PBC fellowship after having joined a lab in Israel?
2. Has anyone applied for it in the last round (2017/18) after joining a lab?
Thank you
Pratik

Hey Prateek,

Last year I was planning to apply but I couldn't. There is a clause very clearly written candidates already in Israel can't apply for this.

Please update, in case it is incorrect information.

There is another one called Technion Fellowship for Post Docs. I guess successful candidate will get something around 1000 NIS extra. I am not very sure about it. Required documents:
One of my lab mates is availing this fellowship.

Hi everyone,

I am quite positive that the rule is not about whether you are in Israel or not. But actually when is the call for such a PBC application and were you formally accepted as a postdoc prior to this call.
I had applied and received the PBC after landing in Israel, though it was the first week of my Israel stay and also was the deadline for the application.
An off-the-topic remark is that the application is fairly straightforward and can be done in matter of hours, except the recommendations which can take any time (depending on your chemistry with past collaborators :)).

Cheers,
Shashank

Hi Tarkes and Shashank

Tarkes, Yes you are right about the clause but as Shashank mentioned it says one is not eligible if one has already commenced your postdoctoral studies at the time of call of applications, regardless of whether in Israel or not.

I have commenced a temporary postdoc position with my PhD supervisor for a short term of few months to wrap up some projects etc.

So a related question:
Does the rule still apply if I have to apply for PBC with a separate supervisor at a different university?

Hey Pratik,

To be honest, I am not too sure and it might very well be the grey zone. I think the best bet is Ayellet. In fact, she was the one who suggested me to apply for PBC when I went to see her the first day. Later on, the head of our group took care of this. As mentioned to me indirectly, there is lot of push and pull that might go on underneath; if not in PBC, then on how it will be accommodated to your existing fellowship. The point is that PBC + your fellowship will likely exceed the 12000 NIS/month limit of student-visa.
Short story: your best bet is to keep Ayellet and the other guy you want to work with, in the loop.

Cheers,
Shashank

Hi Everyone,

I was appointed here as postdoc in the month of Nov 2016. I applied PBC before coming here, immediately after I got offer letter. And I am successful in getting PBC, which will be applicable from the month of Oct 2017. So I think it doesn't matter.

Thnak You
