Dear All,

We have got some e mail lists for Weizmann students and we can now reach out to them. I have prepared this draft message/mail for contacting them and would appreciate your feedback. Similarly in other countries the protests are carried out in front of the Indian Embassies. See here. So we need to come to conclusion on the date or atleast the options. As I remember there were two ideas Thursday the 25th or Sunday the 28th, working hours say 10 am --till we depart. We should finalize this fast. Please give your preference on the date and time ASAP.

Regards
Ashwini

Dear Indian Community at the Weizmann Institute of Science,

We, the Indian community at the Technion, are planning to be heard as a voice in support of India's fight against corruption. In doing so, we are planing to have a peaceful demonstration in front of the Indian Embassy, Tel-Aviv supporting Anna Hazare and his stand against the government. Corruption, as we all appreciate, is as big as the democracy itself in India. And its time we make our resentments and frustrations heard. And help bringing the much needed change. Its time we join, become a unified voice, the voice of people, the voice of students, the voice of intellectuals, the voice of India.

We request you all to join us in this peaceful demonstration. Anna Hazare's fast is scheduled to last for just 15 days and we must come out and be heard in time. The options for dates and times slots would be posted soon. It will have to be a working day to get the maximum attention. We will inform the press, the security and do all legalities to do such a demonstration in Israel.

Please find attached the agenda. We appreciate you feedback and Ideas on this.

Also, please feel free to let your friends also know about it. For example the community in other academic institutes in Israel, if you have a connection, can be approached. The bigger the number greater the impact and attention we generate.

Looking forward to hear from you. Confirming the numbers would be great so that we know how many of us would be coming to the spot.

Jai Hind

Hi Ashwin this mail sounds fine to me...just some small corrections which i have put in...Maybe we should wait for them to respond before deciding the time and the venue and it is better to decide the time and venue with them. You also need to give a contact phone number or two below...cheers

To the Indian Community at the Weizmann Institute of Science,

We request you all to join us in this peaceful demonstration. Anna Hazare's fast is scheduled to last for just 15 days and we must come out and be heard in time. The options for dates and times slots would be posted soon and we would like your single minded consensus on this so that we can fix a plan and go ahead with it. It will have to be a working day to get the maximum attention. We will inform the press, the security and do all legalities to do such a demonstration in Israel.

Thanks Ashwini and Bala.

I contacted India against Corruption (NGO driving the movement in India) and these guys mentioned that we need not necessarily protest in front of consulate if permission process in long and tedious.Any public place with good visibility should also be fine.So we can fall back to Rabin Square if consulate does not work.
Also they asked to share pictures and videos with them and they will  post them on their websites and social media pages.
They will give us promotion material banners etc which we can use.

I have registered Amitabh as our point of contact with them. They will update him daily with latest information and material.

Yuvraj,
Please send me the list of corruption cases to add to the statement.

Jai Hind,
Chhaya

Thanks Bala for the changes.

So I will mail out without the venue or timings as of now. Lets hear from them and decide the things.

"Kadam kadam badhaye ja...." the INA and now the Indian Army march song as we see in the link here

Cheers
Ashwini

So we have two replies from Weizmann and one from Haifa University as of now.

I think do decide a date and venue with them, waiting for them to organize themselves as they have indicated in their mails, will not be time optimal.

Sunday the Indian Embassy is closed for consular services so thats not a good option. Friday morning (the embassy is open), everyone is free, its a weekend and there is usually a lot of people around near public places (like say Rabin Square) before Sabbath. We can get back home on time and play cricket later :)

As Chhaya Bhabhi has already got contacts with people who will post our pics/videos to relevant Indian media we have got a vital link to  a potential success. I guess this was the ultimate aim for such a demonstration. Also, they can send us the posters/banners etc.

Its up to us and it has to be now. We don't have much time. Good photographs can make it look better. In my personal opinion we go ahead and do whatever we can, may not be a guaranteed success, nevertheless a successful effort.

We also have to chose to between Rabin Square or Embassy: Former is gaining more popularity recently in the group for a greater public attention and latter has a greater symbolic value.

We may have 20 people but Friday morning can boost chances of a higher number.

Please give your feedback.

Yes, I also called the embassy - they are open Mon to Fri.
So, let's plan - either this Fri or next Mon, in that case.
I am planning to send another mail in a while, we can decide on the responsibilities and then go into action mode :)
