Hi. Everyone who expressed interest to me directly in participating
in this journal club is now a member of this group. PLEASE, if you
know other people with a general interest and curiosity about journal
articles in biosciences (I am using this broad term since we all have
varied backgrounds and probably pretty broad interests) alert them to
this google group and the existence of this journal club. I left the
membership open so that people can join without my permission.

There are no rules yet about this journal club, but here is my
vision: I want the google group to be a place where we can post
articles that we think are exciting, and we can also use the
discussion feature to have online discussions about them. I would
also like to meet in person to discuss a subset of the articles, as
chosen by whoever's "turn" it is to speak. You don't have to choose
an article that you posted, you can choose someone else's. You do
have to post the article that you choose so that people have a few
days to look at it before we meet to discuss. I don't care about the
presentation format. I think we can be pretty flexible in that
matter. Chalk talks or powerpoint or just holding up your copy of the
paper and pointing at things all work for me. My goal is to read new
(to me) science, hear about what other people are reading, and find
out why you are interested in it.

So, when and where for the in-person meetings? I think it's nice to
meet in the afternoons around 2 or 3, and I am free every day at that
time. There are so few of us that it shouldn't be hard to find a time
that works. Please reply to this message with the time you prefer.

We can meet for the first time after the Passover holiday. (that gives
us 2 weeks to find new recruits). For me, the ideal group size is
about 8.
