"इनस्क्रिप्ट कीबोर्ड को तैयार होने में काफी समय और प्रयास लगा है"
very true .. but like the qwerty is difficult to master even for the english
speaking people, the inscript needs practice and practice to be mastered
if it was intuitive, natural, easy to understand/remember/use, it would
have become the most used .. there would have been no need for
unishusha, uninagari, and so many other alternatives to be explored
(including google's transliteration method)
we MUST focus on the 'natural' quality of devanaagarii and other
indian scripts .. on their grouping into svar, vyanjan, etc
we MUST also focus on the method of modifying the form of
vyanjans with maatraas .. which method is lacking in english
(but is present in french, german, and some other european
languages)
"इसलिए यदि हम इसी को आधार बना कर अपने प्रयासों को केंद्रित करें तो कोई न कोई समाधान निकल सकता है"
with the special nature of our character set, it would be a very
worthwhie investment of our time to discuss a much more
simpler layout
inscript began with putting ka on 'k' and kha on 'K' (shift+k)
but it didn't put i, ii on 'i' and 'I' (shift+i) .. strange !
it follows certain logic for certain vyanjans and some other
logic for svars/maatraas
since it was 'designed' by Govt Dept, and because of the
absence of a better layout, it has become a 'standard'
(in the same way as the qwerty - a typewriter layout which
was desinged to keep the typewriter levers from locking
up when typing fast)
in fact, a very learned person, Gunakar Mule, protested
and left the committee in protest. He was very unhappy
with the inscript being developed the way it was being
developed. Sri Mule, a prolific writer in hindi of books
on myriad topics (including 'computer kya hai' which
talks about super computers also) was even working
on developing new words in hindi for computer lingo
(dvik for binary digit .. bit .. chakati for hard-disk, etc)
but then, brilliant people are not tolerated by bureacracy,
and other 'brilliant' people :-(
if a dvorak can be developed as a standard, maybe
we should also firm up unishusha, uninagari, 'phonetic',
etc layout after discussing the pros/cons and NOT
arguing endlessly to prove the other person wrong
(which doesn't prove oneself as being perfectly right)
pls invest some time on this very serious issue .. else
our coming generations will suffer from the same
difficulty in typing indian languages as the english
speaking have to suffer for using the qwerty.
pks
sorry for english .. my hindi speed is still slow (since
i'm not sure which layout i will work on finally .. i
do like the axar layout .. but even that will need a
bit of practice for fast typing)
