Does anybody know if there is a chemistry restriction on the battery type for the bat connector. For example, can I use Lithium Ion, LiPo, NiCad or only some of those?

I found schematics for the baseboard on Technexion's site. It has a Linear LTS4002 charging chip on there that handles Li-Ion batteries.
