In addition to the computer labs that students can use during building hours and the federal internet/computer discount programs, NWTC also has a collection of 8-week checkout laptops and some hotspots to assist NWTC program students who:
Program Students - If you meet the requirements above and require a laptop or laptop/hotspot combination, go to the Resources section of the My.NWTC Student Portal to complete the Laptop Application Form (GED/HSED/ELL students use a different form, see below).
Upon submission, your application will be reviewed for eligibility and holds. While you will receive an email confirmation right away, DO NOT come to pick up until you have been told that you have been approved for a laptop and there is one available for you at the location you selected (around 2 weeks before classes start).
GED/HSED/ELL Students - If you need a laptop, please talk to your instructor to receive the link to your special application form after you have started attending classes. While you will receive an email confirmation right away after applying, DO NOT come to pick up until you have been told that you have been approved for a laptop and there is one available for you at the location you selected.
Applications are reviewed in the order they are received. Approved students are added to a waitlist once all laptops in the collection have been checked out. Waitlist students are contacted as laptops are returned by other students.
Green Bay Pick Up - Once contacted for pick up, visit the Library during our hours by driving to 2740 W Mason St and parking in Lot E or F. Walk down the path, under the skywalk, and over the courtyard to door #5. See our map. Come prepared to login to the laptop while on campus (using your NWTC ID number and password). Librarians will teach you how to connect to the College's resources remotely.
8-Week Laptops are due back after the session ends but can be renewed in August, December, and March if you are still taking classes. All laptops will need to be returned in May after the school year ends during our hours. Please reply promptly to emails and texts about renewing or returning. All laptops must be returned by their due date to avoid being charged a daily late fee ($3 per item) as well as the replacement fee ($800 for laptops, $200 for hotspots, and $1500 for Macs).
Students are also responsible for paying all costs of collections, such as collection agency fees, credit bureau fees, legal filing fees, service of process fees, publication fees, witness fees, and reasonable attorney fees. Students in default on financial obligations to NWTC will be prohibited from registering for new classes and will not receive transcripts and/or grades.
Students who have been denied a laptop due to previous billing, damages, or financial/conduct holds on their account may appeal the decision after clearing current holds and meeting with the Manager of the Library. During the appeal process, they will be asked to meet with the dean of their program to discuss the situation. If the dean approves an exception and signs the appeal form, the student will need to meet additional conditions to check out a laptop for the next 8-week session.
Yes, you do need to be a current student enrolled at Normandale in the semester you would like to receive a laptop. If you are admitted to Normandale, but you are not currently taking classes, you are not eligible to receive a laptop at this time.
This program is a needs-based program for students who have financial (or other) complications securing a device to complete academic work. Priority is given to students who are Pell-eligible, low income, etc. All applicants have an opportunity to explain to reviewers why they should qualify in the laptop application.
No. One free laptop is issued to each student. If you believe you have an extenuating circumstance that we should consider, you are welcome to apply. Priority goes to students who have never received a laptop before.
Please make every effort to make your scheduled pick-up time. If you are unable to make the time, you will have a link in your Normandale email to cancel the appointment time. You can also call the Tutoring & Writing Centers to let us know: 952-358-8624.
I have same configuration ( hardware and OS- e.g. windows 7 64 bit) on my desktop and laptop.I want to know if there any sync tool which will sync windows application between multiple computers. like in my case laptop and desktop.(While exploring new application I tried to installed in on desktop/laptop and then again I have to do same installation with other machine.)
That doesn't seem possible because of licensing restrictions. A program will generally make it difficult to copy itself onto another system. Of course with free applications this is different. If you have both application already installed and licensed on both systems, and you would like to synchronize the preferences that a different story.
If you install portable applications (for example, see PortableApps.com), then you can use any type of file sync mechanism, such as DropBox (my personal favorite) to achieve this. (Full disclosure: the DropBox link has my referral code; you are welcome to visit their site directly rather than clicking on the link.)
If your apps are portable, you can use Windows Live Mesh to do this. Mesh allows you to sync a folder tree between multiple PCs. I use this to run the same set of programs on my home PC and two work PCs - the sync happens automatically and in the background.
The reason could conceivably be technical. Apple silicon has a powerful GPU and Neural Engine built in. For the sake of scaling multimodality it only makes sense that the new openai client app would offload its initial layers to the GPU and Neural Engine in that hardware. Thtat would enable guarantees on response times and improve user experience qualities, imho.
Apple secretly want you to buy their Silicon Chip computers. This is a strategy to force consumers to part ways with the old and spend exuberant amount of money for the new machines. Capitalism in this case really sucks ass, especially when the economy is eating away our savings with increased inflation & interest rates.
Same here, I am really disappointed. As a first-wave open.ai supporter in my country with a Plus account as soon as it was available I would have expected that open.ai would have gone for a less elitist approach and consider the positive implications of having more users on board upon release of this new application.
i hope they will fix this soon.
If you previously registered and paid for the July 2020 laptop software, DO NOT re-register. Extegrity will transfer your registration and payment from the July 2020 exam to the February 2024 exam. On August 17, 2020 you will receive an email with instructions on how to download the February 2024 version of the software.
*If you do not receive any of the above-referenced emails, be sure to check your spam or junk folders. For further assistance, contact Exam4 User Support by completing and submitting the form found at the bottom of the page at www.exam4.com/support/
The Board of Bar Examiners offers all timely filed bar exam applicants the ability to use their laptop computers for the essay portion of the Virginia Bar Exam. We have contracted with an exam software company, Extegrity, to provide this service. All applicants who timely and properly register for the laptop program will be allowed to participate.
Laptop registration begins the second Wednesday of January for the February exam, and the second Wednesday of June for the July exam. The initial registration period extends for 10 days. Late registration, with increased fee, extends until the last day of the month such registration began.
You will be required to download, install and verify the operation of Extegrity Exam4 software on your laptop prior to the exam. The software limits access to anything other than the word processing functions provided by the software, and facilitates essential administrative functions.
If your computer has any type of hardware or software problem, Extegrity technical staff are authorized to make a reasonable effort to resolve it. However, if the problem cannot be resolved easily, or if there is a site power failure, you must be willing to continue taking the examination by handwriting your answers using a pen with dark blue or black ink. You will be permitted to continue handwriting your answers, beginning at the point where you were when your computer malfunctioned. After the session, every attempt will be made to retrieve your answer(s) from your hard drive. Exam4 software is designed to protect your work, and it is very likely the data can be recovered, but it is not guaranteed. No extra exam time will be granted in the event your computer malfunctions. You assume all risks of using a computer to take your exam.
You must report to the computer testing room by 8:30 A.M. Latecomers will be required to handwrite the exam. No one will be permitted to leave the computer examination room early. After the stop writing warning has been called, all examinees will be required to stay in the computer room until all data has been properly collected for printing.
You must have both a complete "Application, Re-Application or Update of a Previously Filed Application for Examination and License to Practice Law" and a complete "Character and Fitness Questionnaire" filed with this office.
There will be a fee of $125 for participation in the Laptop Program. The fee covers software licensing plus additional administrative costs associated with administration of the Laptop Program. The entire fee is payable to Extegrity, which only accepts payment via the registration form. The fee is non-refundable nor deferrable to a subsequent administration of the exam (with an exception for cases of unexpected military deployment).
