Harsha Wansooriya,

I'm using ubuntu OS in my PC since last week. But, when i connect my
HSDPA modem to the machine, there is no autorundriver installation to
the machine like it's on Windows.
I think that's because, ubuntu doesn't recognize the .exe file
extension.
What you guys think about it ?
Without this driver of the service provoider I can only disconnect the
device by clicking the connect button on the taskbar of ubuntu. Have
got any idea of installing this driver on ubuntu?
Is that above disconnecting, enough for the protection of the modem?

it would help if you let us know your modem model :)

no you cant install or run exe files on windows, 99% of the time
ubuntu will detect the hardware and install the drivers for it.

My answer;

Kalinga,Why? We are already running .exe file extension on windows,
Don't we? But, i meant it's on ubuntu. my modem is huwawei E156G.
Normal mobile provider installation popup window doesn't exist on
ubuntu like it's on windows. but, hardware installation normally
happens. I had to select my location and mobile service provider in
that window. that's ok.
but. the problem is when i activate my normal 'mobitel smart sim', i
have to send a message requesting a pin number and then i should use
the pin and apply for an internet activation by sending a message. All
this process happens if i have that mobile provider's program which
enables me of sending messages.
so have any of you got an idea of doing this in ubuntu?

it was automatically running at Linux (i hv personally checked it at
fedora 12),
may be thats your hardware :)

we could even mount its secondary memory. and see the mobitel m3 logo :P

when its plugged.

give

# dmesg-c

at terminal, and post it here (we just need the last few lines with
huawie thing.

or click on the networkmanager app to check whether its showing a "new
mobile Broadband connection" kinda thing
