Google Workspace for Education Plus licencing reallocation & Google Meet recording

Kia ora

We have just reallocated the last of our licences away from Education Plus (Staff). However those users are now unable to record Google Meet.

Has anyone encountered this?  I'm hoping this is temporary.

We also have Google Ed Fundamentals allocated across our organisation. Could this be a conflict?

Kia Ora Rachel,

Recording is not available to education fundamentals (the no cost version of Google for Education) 

For recording of meets the user would need an education plus licence or a teaching and learning upgrade

All users get fundamentals licences and if you have education plus this is an additional licence on top, users would have both active.

If you are on education plus you will have a pool of licences to allocate to all your users, the staff licence is no longer being used, we have moved for one single licence type

Hi Rachel,

The settings for the OU look like recording is turned off.

Can you turn recording on and then save for that OU ? 

You may have to click 'override'

Thanks for talking this through with me Steve. 

Recordings were turned on for the whole domain.

I went back and turned it off for the organisation and then turned it on for each OU and it worked.

The old turn it off, turn it back on again! I should have tried that first.
