Anyone using the Reception App on an iPad for student attendance late sign in? Want to know if you print the leave pass.

Hi Alistair,

We use it for late pass and leave pass, as well as our Visitor passes. We print the pases for them to show their teacher along with the photo in BW.
It does the job most of the time :)

We just use a networked printer setup in the office that is discoverable using bonjour.

Works fine, even with 3 ipads running to it.

I want to visit this again as we're still old school.

We're thinking iPad x2, Kamar Reception, but any printer suggestions?

Would be nice not to print A4 format (like the 'See me' prints the office currently does to gather students), so printer suggestions?

We were printing a leave pass docket in FSM's equivalent app up until a couple of weeks ago, when we voted to abandon the docket as nobody looks at it.

Hey 

We have just this year moved to KAMAR .  Within 4 months after getting teachers onboard we switched  to reception app and not printing student passes .  The printing was too slow.  Instead we manually print and recycle daily passes .  Most students and staff bring them back .  Staff can see in Kamar the reason for lateness.  We are about to do the same for visitors.  They are laminated so easy to recycle and different colours  for the day of the week.   

Before that we used vistab and kids stuck passes  under desks and lockers.   Before Vistab we wrote on paper notes and they were thrown away .   

We use two iPads for Kamar reception app and take out a third for evacuation drills to quickly verify who’s offsite .

We got ours working fine, had Kamar iPad in kiosk mode and battery powered Brother RJ2050 printer working and students can badge their smartcard Student ID. But printing was sooo slooww. I tried several things, but it seems the iPad/FilemakerGo is the bottleneck. Had trouble with impatient students printing their late pass too soon as the print preview wouldn't render the right size until it queried the printer, resulting in postage stamp print on the paper and it wasting about 350mm of paper, not to mention the long wait (90 seconds-ish). So we opted last term to ditch printing, and the processing is now about 30 sec per student - much quicker. The stand is portable, but gets put inside and plugged into power each night to charge up. We place it outside the attendance office under a camera.

I drilled holes through the wall and counter and mounted it with charger on full time.  Locked it down to just Filemaker go with what's it called? Guided access?  I forget.

We are using 2 iPads and the reception App.

We do not print late passes for Students. When we have a late train and 40 students all turn up late at the same time it slowed things down.

For Visitors to school we just have a fluro sticker pre printed with Visitor on. We had some guests who didn't like their names showing so never wore the sticker. The fluro one seems to work and they use it

Hi there,

We were running VisTAB and had a brother printer which was a little slow at first and then got even slower over time. We moved to Kamar and are running reception app on an iPad. We also experienced difficulties with the printing and/long queues we abandoned printing late passes - students were happier and teachers still have visibility in kamar so win/win?

Very interesting to follow this discussion

We have used Brother label printers but have had a few issues

However for late passes we now use a small  HP printer and are printing passes very quickly on A5 

I will be doing some more testing on a brother label printer next week to see if we can use it for reception labels
