Hi all,

A quick question, I've been using delprof2 as a GPO machine startup script for quite some time.
(This is to delete local profiles that take up space)

But lately I have noticed that the time last used algorithm doesn't seem to calculate - 'profile not old enough to be deleted' yet the profile is >x days old.
I am starting to see drives of shared computers getting full, then updates halt... then no more new users can log in, then loads of other issues!

Since we're not going to be BYOD/BYOL for some time, does anyone here still manage old local profiles?
I don't roam (just redirect the common folders).

Anyone else delete / manage profiles in a different way?

Matt

For some reason this wasn't enabled in any of my lab policies. I thought it was, probably used to be in an old GPO before i re-did them all for windows 10.

Hi Matt,

Use the ntuserini switch. I use the following and preserve the two admin accounts in case of no network access so I can still get a quick logon. You can change the 30 days to less. I run this regularly, works a treat.

Delprof2 /ntuserini /d:30 /u /ed:administrator /ed::techadmin

Group Policy:

Computer Configuration > Policies > Administrative Templates > System/User Profiles
Delete user profiles older than a specified number of days on system restart > Delete user profiles older than (days)

We use 60 days for issued-to-staff machines (so staff user profiles can survive neglect over the summer holidays) and 30 days everywhere else.

The beauty of using the delprof2 is you can schedule it, and it can run without a machine reboot. I schedule it for 3.30pm Friday on our Library machines, since doing that I haven't needed to touch them. Used to have to reimage them every term (old machines with only 60Gb HDD).

The beauty of Windows 10 is that enough reboot-requiring updates come along that you need not worry about a machine staying up for months at a time.

You appear to have misspelled 'curse' as 'beauty'.

Hi all,

Alistair, THANKS! ntuserini helps.

I here use a include wildcard, so /id:1* as all our student profiles start with a 1 (from Kamar)
That way I keep admin profiles, and any other profiles that are not students (like we have the odd kiosk account for guest training sessions etc)

Matt

Hi Matt,

That will only work until the end of next year, when ID's will move onto 2...  (2020 onwards)

Kent.

Hi Kent,

Yes in 2020 ill be adding 2* to the list (you can have multiple include criteria), for 5 years until 1* depreciated.
Unless we've changed our system by then. At some point there will be no local directory.

Its a sad year, we have our last remaining pre-millennial student. .... only 1 born in Dec 1999, the rest are 2000+!

Matt
