Hi has anyone set up a femtocell / SureSignal?

On N4L?

Our senior management end up wandering outside to get enough signal.

Why they don't use their desk phone, but that's a different question eh?

For LandSAR we have a SureSignal that we use around the remote sites when needed.

In 2017 we used one at Makarora but they have/had an Araneo backhaul rather than copper/fiber.
It worked well and shocked some of the locals who came to the school (SAR Base) that yheir vodafone mobiles suddenly had coverage.

I've tested it here prior too and although it can take 30 minutes to connect, they seem to work well over N4L.

Cheers.

I don't know if VF does it but 2degrees supports cell over wifi for phones that support the tech.

Nah, I've had them on several ISP's in the past. Just be patient when setting them up.
I understand that the reason they take so long to come online is that the VPN has to lock on and speed quality test, then it spends ages scanning for any other towers so as to not interfere. Then there is all the magical stuff in the background to transmit a secure/verified signal.

Cheers

Vodafone internationally are shutting down their Sure Signal network as WiFi calling will replace the need for the Sure Signals, they are basically following 2 Degrees same path. 2 Degrees did it primarily due to limited signal in many places and it costing too much to peer off Vodafones towers in the past.

One of the key reasons that Vodafone stopped selling Sure Signals when they did was their system was at capacity for the devices with no way to extend it from what I was told.

We run a sure signal off N4L, it did take a reset and a few hours for it to config but eventually came through and works fine.
A real shame that Vodafone hasn't offered an alternate after no longer selling the devices for so many years.

and to report back, I got the 8 phone capable version and it works great.

It really does take forever to do the initial setup.. interesting
seeing what it does, it makes a series of IPSEC VPN connections back
and forth to a Vodafone NZ server and looks like it's doing very
little... I had to stop watching it as I'm not great at waiting for
that sort of thing, but on coming back in this morning, it was all set
up and happy.

When I moved it to another building the setup was much faster, tens of minutes.

thanks all,
Cfraig
