Hi all,

Since we're an O365 school I've been trying to find a lean way to redirect chrome user data (passwords, history, extensions, bookmarks etc) on to the server, but leave the rest (esp cache) local.
I do use GPO to set homepage, first launch settings and currently redirect data directory with a disk cache limit (that's only a guide).

This is for those users with no google account, no BYOL so use school computers.
I don't use roaming profiles (just folder redirect) but would like just to redirect the important chrome data.

Anyone got the right combo to achieve without reading the full deployment guide?

Matt

Off the top of my head, there's a Google admin template for GPO that I downloaded, didn't play that much with it, but you can set to import bookmarks on first launch and default homepage, are you using that ? Are you using individual computer accounts on AD or generic ones ? If generic, you don't want it remembering passwords.

I'm personally against browsers remembering passwords because no-one ever remembers them, then when they have issues, deleting the cache and all website data often fixes them.

Thanks Alistair,

I'm not so keen on password saving although I'm guilty - but use a manager/generator outside of browsers.
No generic accounts everything is AD (but crucially internally not SSO), just at this point in time.

I am testing with the two settings:

Set User Data Directory:    H:\Chrome  (users home drive)
Set Disk Cache Directory    ${local_app_data}\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default\Cache

Going to monitor tomorrow and see how it populates, just testing myself isn't always enough.

Matt

Yes Chrome.admx, the latest version available.
All options set via GPO.
