Kia ora all

I am looking at the pros and cons (well mostly the cons) of bringing BYOD devices under school Chrome Device Management.

We have half school-owned devices and half BYOD at the moment but will be increasing our BYOD numbers and decreasing our school-owned numbers over the next couple of years.

For schools who have taken this approach, did you make it mandatory or optional?
In general were parents receptive to this or opposed to it?
Do you charge an admin fee?
Where did you get the licences for devices that weren't purchased by the school?

Cheers

Hi Ros,

The licences are owned by the school, but were free. Thus no charge. We made it optional, but recommended they enrol. For students that aren't enrolled, some parents have restricted their students accounts too much that they can't access any other user account, thus they can't access their school Gmail and G-Classroom. I just reset the device and enrol it, blows that away. We have a separate profile for school devices and student devices, just stops kids adding non-school accounts to school devices, whereas they can add their own private accounts (controlled by Time of Day). The forced profile that enrolling offers means they can't download apps other than pre-approved. When they leave the school, we unenrol the device.

I must say that once a device is enrolled, I never see the students back again, whereas those that try to be clever and refuse, they are the ones continually having trouble, or 'off task'.
