When Google doesn't help, long conversations with Chat GPT can pay off. I have now settled on a specific solution for broken Miracasting for our beloved MS Wireless Display Adapters (hang in there). We noticed this issue with two or three users after Win 11 24H2 was pushed out, a few more fell over yesterday (during InTune deployment testing) and I'm all out of HDMI cables. Fixing Miracast Connection Issues on Windows 11 24H2

📌 Problem Overview

After updating to Windows 11 24H2 (not limited to), Miracast may stop working on some devices, even though it was previously functional. Users may see their device name appear on the adapter but fail to complete the connection. The issue occurs because the Wireless Display feature is missing or the system reports Miracast as "Not Supported," even on hardware that should support it. (Note this solution potentially includes Windows computers that just stop Miracasting. 😭 After resetting two adapters, my desktop refused to connect). I'm not getting into firewalls or complex setups—this is purely about - It worked yesterday!

🛠 Solution

To resolve this, manually reinstall the Wireless Display feature, as Windows 11 24H2 may not include it by default or may have removed it during the update process (or it just broke).

✅ Step-by-Step Fix 1️⃣ Check Miracast Support on Your Device

I gave up on testing if Miracasting was supported, it worked before... so!

2️⃣ Reinstall the Wireless Display Feature

Manually reinstall the feature, even if it doesn’t appear in the Windows capabilities list:

dism /online /add-capability /capabilityname:App.WirelessDisplay.Connect~~~~0.0.1.0

⚠ Warning: ⏳ This process can take a few minutes (10 -15 or so). Wait until the command completes before proceeding.

3️⃣ 🔄 Restart Your PC

After installation, restart your computer to apply the changes.

📶Go to Bluetooth & Devices - Remove all Microsoft Display Adapters from Wireless Displays & Docks4️⃣ 📶 Test Miracast ConnectionPress Windows + K to open the Wireless Display menu and try connecting again.

If that didn’t complete the job, the next step was to Factory reset the MS Display Adapter (note the adapter isn't the issue)

  1. Hold the reset button down while it’s plugged into power and HDMI.
  2. Let it reset.
  3. Use the MS Wireless Display Adapter app to tweak settings as needed (but resist the urge to add a PIN before connecting).
  4. Go back to Bluetooth & Devices and remove the adapter
  5. Win +K and try to connect 🤞🏽

Anyway, this seems to have done the trick for me 🤞🏽—probably a better solution than waiting for Microsoft to fix it, like the mysteriously broken audio on our HP EliteOne G5 desktops. Try it at your own risk! I’ve already ventured through the Microsoft discussion boards, Googled until my eyes crossed, and had ChatGPT sending me on a scavenger hunt for registry entries that don’t exist and services that are either running... or not even there! It worked yesterday! 😭
