Thank you for leasing a laptop device through the Ministry of Education’s TELA+ scheme. This email is to inform you that, upon your lease renewal, the leasing term will be extended to four years, from the 1st July 2024.

This change only applies to new leases from 1 July and does not effect the term of existing leases.

With the governments requirements to find cost savings from existing services delivered to government departments, the Laptops for Teachers TELA+ scheme was evaluated by the Ministry of Education as part of these cost saving initiatives. It was identified that increasing the lease term from three years to four years would provide significant savings to the Ministry of approximately $500K per annum. Schools will also benefit with a small savings to teacher devices of $28 to $64 per annum, per device. (The savings for schools will vary and is dependent on the model of TELA+ devices leased by teachers and principals.)

To support this change, the TELA+ portal will be unavailable from Thursday 27 through to 8.00am Monday 1 July. Once the system update is completed, the portal will be made available for asset management.

Please note, the eligibility criteria for teachers and principals at NZ state or state-integrated schools will not change. Plus there will be no reduction to the number of devices provided to eligible teachers and principals. Devices that break or fail will be replaced as part of the scheme as per normal, so schools shouldn’t experience any functional impact with this change.

The Ministry delivers the TELA+ scheme to schools and kura through a procured contract with Cyclone Computers.
