has anyone done anything with kamar and custom api for syncing with microsoft school Data sync or possibly Schoology. It seems very backward and the whole importing csv files gets tiring fast

Hi Kevin,

I've not done anything with Kamar directly but do have some updates from Kent about this:

1) Kamar is trying to go away from individually supported protocols for every third party vendor, so won't be building a custom export for SDS formatted CSVs

2) They did this for Hapara which has very similar requirements and could be modified perhaps for SDS.

3) they have been development on their Directory Services push service,  which  appears to include all the information required for SDS.

https://www.kamar.nz/directoryservices

Hope this helps?
Cheers
Sam

Sorry, meant to include I know of at least one Edu partner that has managed to write a service that translates Kamar's Directory Sync XML to SDS CSVs to automate this process. Happy to connect you if you're interested.
Cheers

yes that's more what I meant, using Dir Sync at least 75% of the info is already sent to local AD and therefore Azure using their api including all staff and student groups and timetables, SDS has apis for other US based providers so how hard can it be to tie the two together,

Hi Kevin,

Yes, I think SDS was only integrated with large SMS in the US that were used by millions of students - the rest of us had to figure it out with CSV!

Couple of other things:

1) If you're using Dir Sync still to replicate local AD to AAD you need to replace this ASAP with AzureAD Connect as Dir Sync is EoL:

2) If you want a simpler way (although less automated) to populate MS Teams etc, then you can actually use AAD security groups and I know a bunch of schools that are content for teachers to do this themselves rather than set up SDS:

I'd still recommend a solution like my original reply about using Kamar's Directory Services to populate SDS, but the above is an alternative option.

Cheers
Sam

sorry was referring to kamar dir services when I said dir sync, we already have all the kamar timetable information in AD and AAD. The classes are there all populated and with teachers as owners and its great to control linewize class lists and give teachers control. Basically all the required info is already in AD and AAD so surely SDS can use that
why do we need CSVs,it seems they want us to duplicate the whole AD again in SDS rather than be in sync

I don't think SDS is continuing anyway.  They are flushing MS Classrooms in favor of vaguely enhanced teams.  Probably not worth the effort till they have nailed it down for at least another US school year.

Hi Jeffrey,

SDS is definitely staying to support Teams and Intune for Education.

Regards,
Sam
