Kia ora,

I have an issue that I am hoping someone has some insight on.

Recently, I've been getting a handful of students accounts that are failing to assign their A5 license. The microsoft admin portal shows the error "Something went wrong when we tried to assign this license". It fails everytime when the license is reapplied.
The staff licenses seem to be fine.

Our student microsoft accounts are created with the following pipeline.
Kamar->Local AD->AzureAD.
With licenses applied to the Azure AD groups.
And there is available licenses too.

Has anyone had this sort of issue before?

I've had that,

I think mine was because I had a duplicate licence group (mine are dynamic) - but it may have also been assigning an A1 and A5 to the same user (or a user had a manual licence attached) - perhaps for me a returning leaver I gave access outside of the dynamic group.

I would check the user - are they already licenced somehow (perhaps for A1 or another conflicting product) by group or direct assignment.

Actually I think for me either some students were directly attached to the expired A5 licence, or the dynamic group had the expired licence attached and I couldn't add the new A5 licence to those students.
It took a long time for those expired licences to disappear from the console too.

That could be it.

I just checked the Entra portal.
And the old expired Minecraft license is still showing as active for the student groups.

Only thing is that I am unsure how to go about unassigning it.
In Entra it says that I need to unassign it in the Microsoft Admin portal.
But the license doesn't appear in the Microsoft Admin portal as it has since expired and been removed.

Any thoughts?

In the Admin console I can change the filter for the licences to include deleted and failed.
This also then shows MEE (to be deleted on 28/9 for me) - I can click on this and look at licence assignments.

All my MEE assignments are 0, faculty and students.

I should also say disabled is probably the one to look for (with the expiry date of 31/12/2024)
Make sure the filter is on for disabled.

Ah, right. I might be missing some priviledges to see the items in the 'your products' menu.

I might just wait until the 28th.
And see if that fixes it.

Thanks Matt.
