To all techcos:

I am presenting a session on computer programming curricula at TechTalk and I was hoping to have as many school techcos/coding teachers as possible answer the survey linked below. If you know who that would be at your school, please forward the link to the survey to them.

Thank you!

Survey on Computer Programming Curricula

ABOUT THIS SURVEY
Recently I was asked to submit a proposal for a presentation at TechTalk, the Chicago Public School annual conference on technology in education. As I thought of a topic, I remembered how I got into technology as a teenager, taking a class in BASIC+, a text-based programming language. That was thirty-five years ago! For a few years now, according to the media, programming jobs comprise one of the largest areas of unfulfilled positions in the workforce, for which companies often resort to hiring foreign talent.

I decided to explore what kind of curricula are being offered in high schools. This is not a rigorous research project, but rather a way to engage the participants in my session at TechTalk on various aspects of creating a curriculum in computer programming (=CP).

No information that identifies the respondents or their institutions will be used in the presentation. The article will be shared with the participants before its presentation for possible revisions and clarifications.

ABOUT ME
I learned coding as a teenager during summer classes at Williston Northampton School in Massachussets. In college I studied animation films and computer graphics. I have been presenting at Chicago area technology conferences since 2002 on topics revolving mostly on Open Source tools such as Content Management Systems (Drupal and Joomla) and OpenOffice. I currently work for the Chicago Public Schools as a Technology Coordinator (I have been at Gwendolyn Brooks College Prep Academy for three years and, as a Network Administrator, at Roberto Clemente Community Academy for 13 years). Before that, I provided computer skill and English as a Second Language services (7 years) to parents of Head Start children in an initiative by the Department of Human Services and the University of Illinois at Chicago.

Thank you for your participation! For any questions, feel free to contact me at glf...@gmail.com or 773.726.4737.
