I decided to explore what kind of curricula are being offered in high schools. This is not a rigorous research project, but rather a way to engage the participants in my session at TechTalk on various aspects of creating a curriculum in computer programming (=CP).
No information that identifies the respondents or their institutions will be used in the presentation. The article will be shared with the participants before its presentation for possible revisions and clarifications.
ABOUT ME
I learned coding as a teenager during summer classes at Williston Northampton School in Massachussets. In college I studied animation films and computer graphics. I have been presenting at Chicago area technology conferences since 2002 on topics revolving mostly on Open Source tools such as Content Management Systems (Drupal and Joomla) and OpenOffice. I currently work for the Chicago Public Schools as a Technology Coordinator (I have been at Gwendolyn Brooks College Prep Academy for three years and, as a Network Administrator, at Roberto Clemente Community Academy for 13 years). Before that, I provided computer skill and English as a Second Language services (7 years) to parents of Head Start children in an initiative by the Department of Human Services and the University of Illinois at Chicago.
