The changing of passwords is the correct method. There will be more password management issues, since students commonly share login credentials as much as they share their locker combinations. And they may use the same password as their other non-CPS accounts. Well, our teachers also share their credentials with each other although they have been discouraged (Ugh).
This has been an issue since the accounts were created. Students who understand the pattern, would log into other student accounts. Most of the time, they would assist other students who didn't know their username or password, but others could easily perform malicious actions.
We have come a long way from using SSN as Kronos login, and using employee SSN as the default password of domain user accounts.
I never liked the default user accounts (School and Office). It's easier to manage my own created domain accounts for guest use. instr\school-1350 or instr\office-1350.
It's going to be a challenge either way.
Happy School Year.

Please advise the best way for students to change their passwords. With so many apps being tied in to the students' CPS accounts, I am going to make this a priority this year. I would recommend that CPS also encourage high schools to have their techcos or admin stress the importance of password security as we are trying to prepare students for the real world. IDs are readily available which means that passwords at this point are readily available. Isn't this a major problem?
Thanks!
