Hello Fellow TechCos and Tech Directors,
As of 3/26/2019 I have officially retired from Chicago Public Schools as Technology Coordinator.
I appreciate all the well wishes I received.
This was one of the choices I had. I have been displaced since October 3, 2016. Schools were no longer funding a position for a non-teaching Technology Coordinator. The teachers, engineers, librarians, case managers, and other Educational support personnel were called on to fulfill the role. Citywide many of my colleagues began to lose their positions to the new "Tech Teachers" who were all but happy to fill multiple roles for one salary. Forgive them, they know not what they did to the IT profession - while fellow members of the Chicago Teachers Union. Many of these nameless pioneers have now moved on - John A., Victor H., Anthony B., Darryl G., Michael , Bud R., and some other professionals were displaced in this manner.
No retirement lunches or dinners. No victory lap. No tearful farewells. Just a visit to the Retirement Board and a faxed form to CPS HR made it official.
I appreciated working with the staff over the years. The principals who placed confidence in me - Fulton Nolen, Diane Jackson, Barbara Hall, and Reginald Evans - allowed me to manage the premises as a IT professional. Unfortunately, there were two principals who did not fully understand the value added role of the Technology Coordinator. Both eliminated my position without professional notice (in 2005 and 2016). I had already moved on to raise our own children, apply for employment assistance, Link Cards, affordable healthcare, and a portion of the income in private industry.
We have survived and blessed for what God has continued to provide in His overall plan.
I have worked for a software training provider as a Client Services Manager CRM/IT for the last 2 years. It has been a transition, but a welcome enhancement of customer relationship management duties.
Thank you for everything
