Peoplewho have never visited Sicily do not realize how big it really is. I will be flying into Catania, exploring Catania, Siracusa, a bit of Messina and possibly into Agrigento. I have hotels but no exact plans. I will be going with the flow. I will also be assisted by new friends who live in Sicily.
Besides all of the above, I hope to explore smaller, off the beaten path locales. That is where you find the real, untarnished by tourism, Sicilians. Of course, defining a Sicilian is a challenge in itself. The island is a blend of Greek, Roman, Norman, Saracen and who knows who else. I am excited to see the different influences from over the centuries. Travel virtually with me as I explore. I will be tasting food and wine from the areas, visiting fish markets, meeting locals and sharing what I discover. Thanks to so many of my followers for suggesting Sicily. I chose it as my first exploration for 2020.
So for now, ci vediamo, Italia! I will miss Italy, my family, new friends, the food, the wine, the beach and the slower pace of life. But we will be back in the springtime and I look forward to more adventures in my second home.
I think about food all the time. It's been that way since I made gnocchi, ravioli and meatballs with mom at age 5. In the 1970s, a good little boy went to college, got a corporate job, worked hard to retire and that's just what I did. But now, it's back to food and cooking; my life's passion.
Yes, that would work fine. Since the crushed tomatoes will be a little more liquidy, I would add them earlier (with the wine) and cook them to concentrate a bit. Please let me know how it works out!! Joe
