p.s. To clarify, if anyone chooses to use Cookie's maps they will have
to find any available grid numbers on the maps and then write them in
on the edges as they choose. When the numbers are in place then, the
maps are ok for use with a GPS. If memory serves correct, writing in
the grid numbers was also true for v28 of TAT's maps, and thankfully
for v29 they were already included.
To be fair, Cookie's maps were the only abbreviated map set going with
any sort of trail line in 2010 (and everything was marked in miles
instead of km which was easier for me at the time). I still carry them
to cross reference with TAT's maps, simply for the reason they are all
oriented to north and sometimes have extra details.
Since then there's been an exponential growth with other trail related
info and resources which has led to practices and ideas that seem to
work better for some folks. I personally prefer paper and hand held
compass, mainly for safety reasons and I find all this 'new'
technology a bit confounding.
