to Rockwell Relay Team Wild Hogs
Current plan: Greg Miller and Jeff Dean will drive to St. George, UT
on June 1. We'll tow Jeff's 5th Wheel RV (sleeps 8 very comfortably -
king bed, queen bed, 4 bunk beds, convertible table - two bathrooms).
We'll camp in St. George and likely do some short rides around St
George (e.g., Zion National Park). On Thursday (6/7), we'll head to
Moab (about 300 miles). We currently have three hotel rooms reserved
in Moab (Comfort Inn @ $120/night; each with two queen beds). All are
welcome to join us at St. George.

Jeff's wife (Debbie) plans to join us to be part of the support crew.
She'll fly into LV on Sunday.

We'll start the ride on Friday (6/8) and end back in St George on
Saturday at the RV.

Las Vegas is about a 2-hour drive from St. George. So, if other riders
don't mind the 300+ mile drive from St. George to Moab, then this is
the best airport. Salt Lake City airport is the hub closest to Moab,
but it is still close to a 5-hour drive to Moab (much not on
Interstate Highways). Even if one were to fly into SLC, you'd want to
leave from LV since we'd be in St George after the ride.

We are thinking two support vehicles would be ideal. This would allow
riders that just finish a leg to leap a couple of checkpoint ahead and
rest (perhaps in a simple two-person tent). Even if we have two teams,
two support vehicles will probably be able to effectively handle both
teams- just a bit more coordination.

Since we are taking the RV, we can take most of the supplies. We'll
have tools, bike stands, a Bones 3 (by Saris) trunk mount bike rack, a
hitch mount 4-bike rack, and two fork racks in the back of the truck
(for a total of 9 bikes plus one we can lay in the back of the
truck).

The truck is an Ford F250, crew cab.

We are assuming we'll have at least one rental car for the folks
flying in. We could try to get a minivan or small SUV to assist with
the support chores.

Using rough costs from the web, here are some cost estimates:

Registration - $160 per rider (Greg and Jeff are paid. Greg paid for
the other two team member - have to register a full team)
Hotel: $120/night for 2-4 people (depends how modest you are)
Flights: $400RT from Phil to LV (Soutwest...didn't try to find cheaper
flights)
Fuel: ~$300 for support vehicles
Jerseys: $50 for jersey and $70 for bib. Greg and Jeff have ordered
Jersey's from Rockwell Relay. Would be nice if we all had the same
jersey. We'll look into a patch or other way to indicate we are part
of a team...maybe T-shirts.
Ride food/liguid (ice, bars, gels, etc.): ~100

We found a great light on Amazon. Jeff got one and rode in the night
with it. It is 1000 lumens and lit up the road as well or better than
a car headlight. It supposely lasts 3 hours on the battery pack. It
was only $89. An extra battery pack is $39.
