Return of the Classic Two Gap
Mad River Road Race Course

Despite a long absence the faint markings remain on Middlebury Gap
500M to the K/QoM
We are very excited to announce that after a 3 year hiatus this year's Champion System Mad River Road Race will be contested on the classic 2-gap course. This
course pre-dates the start of the GMSR and for many racers it put the Mountain in the name of the event. For several years racers have been asking us to return to this true climber's challenge, and with the nearly completed replacement of a closed bridge in
Bristol we are finally able make that a reality.

On the road to the Middlebury Gap between Granville & Hancock
This course offers two significant climbs with the Middlebury Gap first, followed by several challenging shorter pitches, finally ending with the climb up the Appalachian Gap.
According to Strava this course is 64 miles with 5,560 feet of elevation gain for your enjoyment. Of course that is not enough for our Men's P/1 and Cat. 2 fields so we have added an extra little loop to bring their race to 94 miles and 7,280 feet of climbing.
We promise this will be an epic day of racing whether you are going for the win or just trying to survive to contest the Burlington Criterium on Monday.

Earlier this week while pre-riding the P/1 & Cat. 2 extension loop - I saw 3 bear cubs
too!
We will be posting all the course details on the GMSR website shortly. If you plan to come up to pre-ride this course
you should know that a bridge on Rt. 100 in Granville Gulf is presently closed to all traffic. It will be re-opened in mid-August in plenty of time for the race. You can either tip-toe over the brook or take the Plunkton Road (some gravel) past Blueberry
Lake to detour around this road closure. Our friends at Vtrans will also be doing road patching in the Gulf prior to the race, but all the problem areas are marked.
A reminder that the GMSR registration fee will increase by $30 on August 11th. We would really love for you to save the $30 so please register before the price
goes up. Please also alert your friends and teammates so they can save money too and use it to buy you a nice local microbrew while you are here. You
can register
on-line at BikeReg.
The 4/5 field is already full with a wait list now open. Your credit card will not be charged unless we move you into a field and we will notify you prior to entering you. We hope to open a second 4/5 field but that will depend on the interest shown on the
wait list. If we do open a second 4/5 field we will split the two fields by age allowing veteran racers to compete together.

A GMSR tradition - Dedicated fans chalking the gap for your arrival
We hope you will come experience the beauty and serenity of the Mad River Valley, and of course our four stages of great racing: including our "Cannibal style"
ITT, a Circuit Race that favors sprinters and breakaways, an epic 2-gap Road Race which will finish on the summit of Vermont's highest four-season road and the exciting 6-corner Burlington criterium.
Updates will be posted at the
GMSR
website and on our
Facebook
page. We will also send more frequent updates in the coming weeks with details about the race and the area. We hope to see you at this year's GMSR.
