Adirondack Rail Trail Community Day – June 20

This family-friendly celebration of the Adirondack Rail Trail will showcase the natural landscape, communities and businesses along the corridor with a fun-filled day of activities, food and live music. The Adirondack Rail Trail is a 34-mile public multi-use accessible path that connects the communities of Lake Placid, Saranac Lake, Lake Clear, and Tupper Lake.

Date: Saturday, June 20
Location: Saranac Lake
Mileage: Up to you
Registration: Free
Benefits: Adirondack Rail Trail Association

During the celebration of the Adirondack Rail Trail, participants will have the opportunity to join in stewardship projects and explore the trail with an interactive scavenger hunt featuring some very cool prizes. The day culminates with a community party featuring Hex & Hop and RiverTrail Craft Breweries, food vendors, live music by Reese Fulmer and the Carriage House Band and a raffle.

Best of all, proceeds support the Adirondack Rail Trail Association and their efforts to help people of all ages and abilities enjoy the landscape, history and natural beauty of the rail trail corridor and its communities.

Volunteer Service Project Details

Participants are also invited to join optional volunteer service projects that will take place between 10am-12pm at various points along the corridor. In advance of the event, all registrants will receive an email where you can sign up for a project. Each project is guided by a leader and all tools and materials will be provided. Potential projects include:

  • Culvert Clearing: To protect the trail from erosion and flooding, culvert intakes need to be cleared of leaves, sticks, and gravel.

  • Debris Removal: The task here is to remove debris from the side of the trail, such as downed trees, to clear the area for mowing.

  • Ditch Cleaning: In order to prevent erosion, this project will require pulling sticks, rocks and other obstructions that may impede the designed flow of water.

  • Timber Rail Treatment: This task involves painting a Copper Coat on the timber railing installed along the trail.

  • Invasive Species Removal: This project entails removal of Purple Loosestrife and Oriental Bittersweet from along the corridor.
