Hi Team,
I sent pictures of our current kit to the design team and told them the following:
"We like bright, bold colors in red, yellow, and orange. Less black. If there is a planet in the new design, it needs to be smaller than our existing design. The new design does not need to include our website. We want to keep the logo of “Team Placid Planet”. No stars on the bike shorts."

This is what they've come up with for a first attempt (click on links below).

Hi All
Personally, I like the design. I think it’s striking but also simple and thus elegant.

Thank you,  Darci! I like it but am thinking there's more black on the right top of the jersey than we wanted. Also not sure about the different color accents on the lower legs but seeing that together with the top helps. For some reason I can't see what Phil said ... (Mary said she agreed with Phil, what did he say?)

Thanks again!

Thanks Darci,  I agree, just think a little less dark up top would be good.  And maybe play around a little with the yellow and red on the legs. Also, glad the full moon party was good!

I agree, Jim;  less black up top might improve the look (i.e. just because I like the design doesn’t mean it couldn’t be improved). 🙂

I like it, overall. How about a baseball- or softball-sized yellow “Saturn” on the back of the black shoulder to lighten it up a little?

I thought the plan was to avoid fade-in colors and have all solid colors, and definitely to avoid black which becomes less visible when it gets dark?

I generally like the simpler less cluttered look of the new design with a couple of minor exceptions.

The widths of the side panels don’t align vertically which I find a bit jarring, however this may be do to a combo of 3d modeling and my attempt at stitching the tops with the bottoms, and is worth an inquiry.  The side panels may need to be different widths for fit reasons.

I concur with Jim about the red and yellow bands on the legs.  They need some sort of color transition rather than a solid color.  The top has a fair amout of transistion while the bottom reads mostly as solid colors except for the side panels.  A bit too much like a Mondrian.

Out of curiosity I looked at what designs other teams in the New York area have for their team uniforms. There is great picture on the Black Fly Challenge web site of the start of the race a few years ago. Here is a copy of this picture. As you can see all the uniforms have solid colors and most avoid black as one of the colors, or at least have very little. In this regard team Placid Planet seems to be something of the exception.

Thanks Darci. It's never fun doing this sort of thing as everyone has a different opinion!

Am I remembering correctly that they were going to share 2-3 different options to consider? Maybe I got that wrong, but if it's possible, it would be great to see another concept or 2.

As for this one, I personally agree with some of the other comments that the yellow-red fade looks a bit dated IMO. I'd prefer solid colors. I do like Brian's idea of incorporating a small planet back in there to tie back to Placid Planet and the old jersey. I personally don't mind the black as I think there is enough color, but I'm fine with less black as well.

Thanks again!

Yes, Darci, thanks for dealing with this! When I brought up the issue of the black shading i was partly, maybe mainly,  just restating one of the points the group made. And if folks like the black, having seen the design,  I'm ok with that. I do think a little brighter would be better though.  I like the idea of a small Saturn. And feel like Verge will probably nail the legs , given some feedback.

Thanks again Darci and also everyone who has taken the time to give feedback!!

Thank you Darci and team for your suggestions. It would be great if we all had sketch pads and whipped off designs of our own creativity. Brainstorming here...how does this sound?
Bibs: Our current design isn't a hot mess. We all just aren't very pleased with fit and durability. What if the bibs remained black with yellow band and had Team Placid Planet just like we now have in white and on the butt panel, there was the saturn and the wording TEAM above the graphic and PLACID PLANET below in a circular fashion? The planet with color pop adds viz(glancing at the Pantone chart the colors 'warm red' and 'dark yellow' seem good and the bibs kinda don't lend themselves to a secondary sponsor. It can, but one could make the argument to leave bibs as club/team identification.
Jersey: Agree with all on the black going away. The fade vs solid?

Regarding fade: as shown with some tweaking, I like it yet to Dan's and other members point, the side panel comes into question. I agree with Dan, it sort of hits abruptly. If we go fade, maybe the side panel can blend more gently/gradually color wise with the overall.

Solid color: going this direction, there might be a fun opportunity for sponsor placement. Remember,  I'm brainstorming here so feel free to chime in with 'or how about this instead?' Pantone warm red, black rear pockets with sponsors named
in the dark yellow matching the planet on the rear panel of bibs? Team Placid Planet remains as Verge sample shows.

Food for thought, all sorts of options and who knows...maybe one idea will lead to another. We're
gettin' there!
Have a great day!

Hi All,
Here are some updated designs from Verge:
I replied that we don't want the planet to be so prominent and that we don't want two different color bands on the legs.

Otherwise, how does everyone feel about the color fade vs. solid colors?

I'm with Jason in preferring #1. And I wasn't really anti-Big Saturn, but the one on version 2 seems just as big or bigger and more prominent than the Saturn on the old design. Just want to make sure we don't end up with something folks wanted to get away from. I'm also not getting the large yellow shape that's behind the ring at the upper left center, seems too busy. But like everyone else I am happy to go with the majority. Thanks Darci!

Can you say what you liked better about #1? I like its simplicity and boldness, but I also like the shoulder design of #2. The lower part of the front of #2 seems a little busy to me, and (I just noticed) someone might say that the big orange shape on the rider’s left side looks a bit like an internal organ.

Here are my best attempts at composites.

I’m also happy with whatever the group decides.  I must say that I surprised my self in liking the solid color version of #2 over the previous one.  It visually jumps out nicely and has a cleaner look to my eye.  Bold with clean lines.

One minor suggestion is that the angle of the rings of Saturn are just slightly different then the angle of the panels so the two angles are fighting each other.  The Saturn ring angle needs to be adjusted either to a more shallow angle or Saturn’s location needs to be shifted so that the rings are either to the left or right of the panel angle. (although the more I look at it the more I’m getting used to it)  I do like the inclusion of a planet in the design since it is Team Placid Planet after all, and the planet adds some foreground and subject matter to the solid panels.  With that in mind, I would suggest adding a star or two to the upper red solid shoulder panel on the back to carry through the star motif and break up the shoulders and arms a bit.  I find the single star on the bottom right orange panel of the rear shirt quite effective at doing this.

Hi again,
I summarized the comments and Verge came up with this:
Tell me what style you like better (fade vs. solid) and what elements you want to keep.

Bryan summarized the comments and generated this less-busy version of the solid colors jersey with an AI assist. If you like this or any parts of it, let me know and I'll share it with Verge.

Hey everyone.
Where I have a concern with the Verge option 2 is how it will look with our sponsor's names/logos. As is, yes, it's dynamic and fun but I do believe it will look too busy after logos. My view on the AI from Bryan, I'm attracted to symmetry and balance. If the AI version had just the red on the top 1/3 (rather than red/orange) and the line below the logo was horizontal rather than angled, I think my OCD would chill out. Planet on the sleeves perhaps? Collar color to match the red on top?
I'm encouraged that we are narrowing this down and we'll get there. Earlier today I expressed to Darci I'd lean toward the fade and I'm confident we can land a decision where everyone digs it. Please keep the comments flowing. Sometimes you have to throw it against the wall to see what sticks ya know?
Lastly, just for stirring ideas, check out this company. I messed around and built out a couple different looks. It's easy and sorta fun. https://www.owayo.com/custom-cycling-jerseys.htm
Have a great night!

I’d like add a little thing i noticed about the latest version. One of the two stars added to the orange section on the rider’s left shoulder appears as if half of it is under the black collar. That looks not right to me.
    Cheers, Phil

I think the horizontal line instead of diagonal and just red instead of red and orange would also improve the jersey; however, at that point, would we want a red planet or orange planet?
