Welcome to Team Lessig Tech

This Google Group is the public discussion forum for the technical volunteers of the Lessig 2016 presidential campaign.

It is where engaged, dedicated volunteers will create and execute a technical strategy for electing the first referendum president with the singular goal of fixing our broken democracy. It is a place to share stories, suggestions, tips, relevant articles, and raise any questions or concerns you might have. It is also a place to report back on our efforts and collaborate to contact voters and citizens. It is not to be used for soliciting support or funds for outside groups, activities, or candidates; sharing other people's emails without their permission; or personal attacks. Violating these terms may result in being removed from the group permanently.

Get involved!

Here are three ways you can get involved today:

1. Join the team.

First, join the group discussion right here. Then, if you would like to be more actively involved in Team Lessig Tech, take a few minutes to fill out our brief Technical Volunteer Registration. Your responses will help us determine how best to allocate your skills and time to the most urgent needs of the campaign. Once you complete the assessment, we will send you an invite to the teamlessigtech Slack channel where you can join the conversation in real-time. You can also contribute to the technical effort by filing bugs reports and submitting pull requests on Github.

2. Contribute.

We may have reached our $1M milestone, but that is just the beginning of the campaign trail. Make a donation to Lessig 2016 to ensure that we have the resources we need to see this journey through to Washington D.C.

3. Spread the word.

You are our best form of marketing. Your friends and followers listen to you. Tell them you are doing your part to support Lessig 2016, The Citizen Equality Act of 2017 and the campaign to fix democracy! You can follow the campaign on Twitter and Facebook. Update your social media avatars and headers and don't forget to use the hashtag #Lessig2016.

Ground Rules

By joining this group, you are pledging to follow our three agreements and the ground rules below.

The Lessig Equal Citizens Exploratory Committee is committed to fostering an open and inclusive community. All members of the community are expected to behave with civility, speak honestly and treat one another respectfully. The team and all of its open-source projects adhere to the Open Code of Conduct. By participating, you are expected to honor this code. By violating its terms, you may be banned from the community.
As a decentralized team, we are empowered to take action to further the campaign’s goals in collaboration with other members of the team. If at least 3 team members agree on a course of action (as long as it’s civil and nonviolent), then we can go ahead and try it. If we cannot get 3 to agree, then we’ll move on to the next idea and try something else. Note: to see how this works in real life, read Swarmwise here.
As a national network, we are focused on one goal: electing the first referendum president who will sign the Citizens Equality Act of 2017. We learn from each other, so experimentation is a virtue and sharing is caring. If we discover a better way of doing something, we’ll share it with the rest of the network. One of the best things we can do is create tools that make us more efficient, reduce barriers to entry so more people can participate, and expand our independent capacity for action together.

The Lessig campaign is not responsible for content posted to the group, or for actions taken or liabilities incurred by one or more group members. The campaign may remove any offensive, abusive, attacking, or discriminatory content, as well as any content that may otherwise violate our Terms of Service. You may not post content to the group that you do not own, and by posting content you consent to its use by others, including the campaign. You are responsible for your compliance with federal campaign finance laws. You may not, for example, volunteer for the campaign if you are being paid by someone else to do so, or volunteer while at work unless it is limited to a few hours per month and your volunteering doesn’t create additional costs for your employer.
