Organizational Announcement

February 1, 2013

Dear All,

Wishing all of you a wonderful 2013 and nothing but the best the year has to offer.

It has been 9 months since Gurudev entrusted me with the Seva of serving as the President of Art of Living Foundation in the US. Since then, I have had a chance to travel to many cities, meet a lot of you, talk to you and just hear from you... I have been amazed, inspired and humbled to see what and how much all of you have been able to do and accomplish with the existing infrastructure, branding, marketing, CRM etc.

It showed me how this organization really runs -- it runs organically, it runs locally and we want to keep it that way, as that is our strength! That being said, one of the ongoing conversations that I have heard again and again across Satsang groups all over the country was around how much energy and effort it takes to get stuff done.

I have heard all of you and hence am putting in place an organizational structure that will help streamline processes, provide banks to channelize the energy and support the local chapters to be even more effective. While we are a 30 year old organization, we work and behave more like a start-up and our current scale, including the number of teachers, requires us to transition to functioning more like a mature organization - something that you will see reflected in the new structure.

The basic structure has been provided for all of us to move together. We have identified the key activities that happen in the Foundation. For each of those key activities we have placed at least 3 people as leaders to ensure there is coverage at any given time and also no single person needs to run anything. It also helps ensure that knowledge is not lost with people. Everything is changing and this is subject to the same principle - if for whatever reason, the individual / administration do not find it a proper fit, we will make the necessary changes to move to a more suitable department / seva.

As you will see that while most of the departments have been identified, we are still in the process of identifying some leaders. Also some of the help / leads may be professional firms that we hire e.g. lawyers

In addition, with each team of 3 people we have also added the newest generation of the AOL family to train, support and encourage their enthusiasm so sometime down the line, they can naturally and effortlessly replace and lead. There are over 100 people who are now in leadership positions and helping to steer the direction for US AOLF. As always there will be certain things that work vs. some that will not - this is our starting point and it is imperative that we all move together.

Please take the time to read this email and attachment carefully and please keep for future use.

The obvious structure within organization, as you know, is the Board of Directors. The chairman Ashwani Dhall, will be working with Jabir Singh, Fred Poneman, David Dunbar and Sharon Delahunt. The board will oversee and give direction to the President, Scott Barsotti.

To support the President, we have the following Advisory committees:

  • Center - Anoop Iyer
  • Finance & Treasury - Bill Elkus and Jeff Houlk
  • Legal and Risk Management - David McColgin
  • Marketing - Jasbir Singh
  • IT - Jatin Chaurasia
  • Ombuds / Grievance - James Perry & Purnima Sastry

In order to execute against the vision of the board and the president we have an extensive operations team. (See attached pdf) along with the document that has the email ids for the various teams. We have also attached the team structure and contacts for the Graduate Programs and Yes+ Program.

As a reminder, the Fee Coordinators are:

In addition, the most important email address for you to remember is go2...@us.artofliving.org. This is a funneling desk, if you have any question at any time and do not know who to contact, send an email and it shall be forwarded to appropriate desk / person in charge.

What gives me immense satisfaction is being in this together with you to make the Foundation even stronger. I look forward to a fantastic 2013.

Scott Barsotti
President, Art of Living Foundation-USA

Dear All,

As per our last team meeting on Saturday, one of the discussion was about photography for GuruDev's NJ volunteer meeting. Prabu has confirmed he will be there to photograph.

Jgd Juliet,

I also requested Umesh ji to take pictures for the event and give images to you so you can have a repository of images.

So that is a plus.

jgd,
Prashant
