I probably won't be attending the club meeting on Sunday since my Mom
is coming to visit this weekend. Is anyone going to be there to
represent us?

I've made a little progress on the tabletop software but most of the
time that I managed on the project over the last few weeks was soaked
up in migrating my development from my XP laptop to my Ubuntu desktop.
My son is increasingly using my laptop for games so hopefully the
move will result in a net gain in productivity. My commuting time
lately has been used to study Kalman filters and I'm looking for an
application if anyone needs anything.

I met with Prof. Meech and Ian, the head of the Snobots team, on
Monday evening and Ian is considering having the team enter the
Robo-Magellan competition. They've been developing vehicles for the
Waterloo competition but there is some doubt as to whether that will
run again this year so they're looking for a new challenge.

I've been in contact with Dave Hylands, former leading member of the
robotics club, and he's still getting his workshop set up after moving
to the Shuswap but hopes to have something ready for September.

Anyone making any progress?

TJ, how about joining us at http://teamstarfox.org
(http://groups.google.com/group/team-starfox) ?

Take care.

I have another engagement Sunday morning, so I won't make it this time.

Tumbot, with an 16MHz AVR, has an accelerometer and some odometry from
the mouse sensor. The data needs looking at to see if is usable, if so it
will need filtering. I have to revive the bot though, and use some
more reliable hook up methods. After that I can drive it around a bit
and capture the data.

I am just doing some low level fiddling with opencv occasionally. I now have
a large sample of traffic cone images, but I have not yet built a successful
recognizer.
I have an old RC car and I am waiting on some parts to see if I can make it go.
Currently I plan to have an accelerometer, compass, gyro, and odometry from the
drive shaft. It looks like I may be able to use some existing parts to get the
drive shaft odometry before I have to do a lot of work to get separate wheel
measurements. All this will need filters! I am expecting to eventually use a
beagleboard or laptop, so there should be more memory and power to play with.

When I get some bits soon, I think my next hurdle will be using IR emitters and
detectors to get the drive shaft odometry.
