Charlotte Street Awards to Visual Artists annually provide unrestricted cash grants to outstanding visual artists LIVING IN THE GREATER KANSAS CITY METRO AREA (Clay, Jackson, Johnson, Platte, and Wyandotte Counties). These competitive awards recognize artists who are creating outstanding artwork, and provide financial support, critical attention and increased exposure for these artists with the aim of fostering their continued artistic and professional development. Through the Awards program, Charlotte Street Foundation seeks to contribute to the vitality of Kansas City’s arts community, distinguish Kansas City as a place that values and supports its artists, and enhance its desirability as a place for artists to work and live. Since its establishment in 1997, Charlotte Street Foundation has supported 74 outstanding visual artists through its Visual Artist Awards, with nearly $500,000 distributed directly to the artists. ted exhibition of the recipients' work will be presented at the H&R Block Artspace at Kansas City Art Institute in fall, 2012. A color brochure with commissioned essay is produced in conjunction with the exhibition.

Juried Online Colored Pencil Exhibition to be displayed at
www.cpsa.org. This exhibition allows artists to explore beyond the limitations of 100% colored pencil on flat surfaces. Works must be predominantly in colored pencil and may incorporate other media, techniques, and surfaces as well as 3-dimensional shapes. The goal is to encourage the use of colored pencils with other materials and attract the attention of artists who are not primarily colored pencil artists. Starting in 2009, Explore This! is the only venue where CPSA members can earn CPX signature status which requires three acceptances within a 10 year period. The exhibition features a $1,500 Best of Show award and EXPY award along with other cash awards. The winners of the top three awards will be invited to send their pieces for display in the CPSA International Exhibition in 2012. In addition, a full-color issue of the CPSA news magazine, "To The Point," will showcase the accepted artwork.

Blue Sky established the Pacific Northwest Photography Viewing Drawers program in 2007 to feature a juried public archive of original prints by contemporary photographers based in the region. Visitors to Blue Sky’s galleries in Portland are welcome to enjoy work in the Drawers by simply opening any one of the archival flatfiles, or by asking the Gallery Attendant for assistance. The Drawers program has quickly become a favorite aspect of Blue Sky’s ongoing programming, available to approximately 25,000 visitors annually. For 2012—to coincide with the newly inaugurated Portland Photo Month (every April)—Blue Sky is expanding the geographic scope of the Drawers to include up to 80 photographers from Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Montana, British Columbia, and Alaska.

History of the LaGrange National The LaGrange National Competition traces its beginning to 1964 when a competitive show known as the Gardens Art Festival was organized and sponsored by the Chattahoochee Valley Art Association, LaGrange College and Callaway Gardens. In 1974, the competition was moved to LaGrange, took the name LaGrange National, and was expanded from a regional to a national show. In 1984, the competition was expanded again into two completely seperate shows held simultaneously, with the Chattahoochee Valley Art Association exhibiting paintings, prints and drawings, and the Lamar Dodd Art Center of LaGrange College exhibiting sculpture, ceramics, photography & decorative arts. Over the years, the LaGrange National has earned an excellent reputation. It has hosted numerous distinguished jurors including Lloyed Goodrich, Richard Lahey, Carl Holty, Joseph Rishel, Larry Poons, Jane Livingston, Cynthia McCabe, Linda Cathcart, Ted Potter, Roy Slade, Henry Hopkins, !
Patterson Sims, Peter Mirin, Siri Engberg, Benny Andrews, Robert Lyon, Jane Jackson, Eleanor Heartney and J. Richard Gruber, PhD. This year, Dr. Robert E. Steele joins the list of these respected jurors who have helped bring additional prestige to the LaGrange National. The LaGrange National provides the citizens of West Georgia and East Alabama access to current artistic practice from throughout the United States; offers artists exhibition opportunities and purchase possibilities; and affords the LaGrange Art Museum and the Lamar Dodd Art Center a means for the development of significant collections of contemporary American art. The Durham Arts Council issues a call to visual artists each year to select artists to exhibit in its Allenton and Semans Galleries. Screening panels change annually and consist of art professionals from the area. Exhibits selected in the current Call for Artists will take place between August 2012 and August 2013.
