DIA DE LOS MUERTOS
The Art of Remembrance 2011

This is a call to artists that are interested in participating in
public exhibitions of altar art for Dia de los Muertos in San Jose.
This year the Art of Remembrance altar exhibitions will be in various
locations throughout San Jose including:

SITE # 1: 4 altars at the Martin Luther King Jr. Library, 5th flr.
Exhibit runs Oct. 6-Nov. 4th.

SITE #2: 3 altar installations at the Phantom Galleries in the SOFA
District for First Friday Art Walk on Oct. 7th through First Friday on
Nov. 4th.

SITE # 3: 4 altars at the School of Art and Culture at the Mexican
Heritage Plaza (tentatively set for Oct. 28th through Nov. 4th). This
exhibit will be located in the theater lobby and will be a part of a
larger artistic collaboration entitled, Festival de las Calacas.

All interested artists must submit a simple written proposal including
their concept and a basic sketch of their intended altar (see attached
form). This will help me develop the written descriptions well in
advance, order the required materials and will also help trouble shoot
any problems in advance of the exhibit openings.

Each participating artist will receive a $100 honorarium to help off-
set the expense of making their altars. SJMAG will provide the
marigolds (or you can make them) and the pan de muertos for all of the
altars, as requested by each artist.
