to Team George Winthrop
Roberta and the Team: I understand your impatience with the process, but one thing to remember: Any temporary measures could skew the traffic study. Also, keep in mind, almost everyone on the team has experienced similar hair-raising events. Personally I can count three times I or my kids were narrowly missed by a speeding car. Sometimes things also happen when we aren't around to see. It's scary. We are all worried about the perils of Winthrop Street, which is why this effort at improving safety conditions came about in the first place. I beg everyone to have a little more patience. For the first time in over 15 years, City Hall has heard the parents of Medford (ask Cathy Ferragamo who tried unsuccessfully years ago to get what we have finally achieved). A few more months of study and careful implementation should not make much difference in the long run. I also want to emphasize that we need to be with our young kids when they are crossing Winthrop Street, holding their hands, until we feel the safety measures are adequate.
