Thx Scott.  We have been doing some fairly extensive training/riding  recently.  Here is the lowdown and you and anyone else is more than welcome to join us:

Monday Night: If we ride it is usually around 6:00 pm. and medium intensity.  Sometimes Parmer, sometimes Twin Creeks hill repeats.  Call me at 979-218-3189 for time and place.

Tuesday Night- 5:45-6pm start 5 minute intervals at Crystal Falls golf course in Cedar Park.....meeting at the clubhouse parking lot by 6:00.  These are not for the faint of heart as they are at threshold or slightly above.  We do five reps..

Wednesday Night- 5:45-6:00 starts some 20 min. intervals on Lime Creek.  These are just under threshold and if your a strong rider, are manageable.  These are a series of two 20 on, 5 off intervals.  We meet at Starbucks at Lakeline and  Cypress Creek at 5:45 and roll at 6:00.

Thursday Night-If we ride it is usually around 6:00 pm. and medium intensity.  Sometimes Parmer, sometimes Twin Creeks hill repeats.  Call me at 979-218-3189 for time and place.

Friday- Mostly off.  Call if you have interest in a morning ride.

Saturday- Meet at Starbucks by 6:45 am and roll by 7:00 or 7:30.  "WARNING"  this ride includes over 5000 ft. of climbing with grades in excess of 15%. and at times can whip up to some pretty good tempo (20-25mph). This ride is for the stronger riders.  You could get dropped on this one though it attempts to look out for the pack.

Sunday Morning- Is a before church ride leaving Starbucks (Lakeline & Cypress) by 7:00 possibly 6:30 when light permits. Approximately two hours of medium paced riding around the Lime Creek - River Place area.

There are slower shorter rides leaving from SW Cyclesports at Lakeline and 1431 usually every Saturday.  Leaving at 7:30am.  These are usually posted.

NOTE: This Saturday 4/25 most of us will be doing the Red Poppy ride in Gtown.

No worries Stephen,, thanks for taking care of it. So how are you doing... have you healed up and are you feeling better. I know better than to ask if you are back on the bike,, because I know you are.. If you guys put together a sunday ride again, let me know. I have been training with a couple of people and need to up the ante,,, I want to race the summer series at the Driveway and have a couple of other races coming up.. so keep me in mind.

I need to hook up and grab those jerseys from you...  Or if you want you can leave them at the bike shop (1431 and Lakeline) and I will pick them up from there... Its been pretty hectic on this side and only getting busier as the peak  (holiday) season arrives... Let me know.  I am still up for some eveing coffee, so that is an option as well...

Is the Sat group still meeting at Starbucks?  If so, what time … strangely in the mood for some self-torture.

well - how did the TDH go?  Anyone finish?

That was absolutely INSANE!  The website has a disclaimer that says you should be sure to be of “sound body and mind”.  In my assessment, there could not have been a single sound mind out there to be crazy enough to attempt this course.

Me and another fellow CFC “slow climber” finished … late (I’m embarrassed to say I forget his name, he’s the other guy with a power meter on his bike).   We both almost quit at the rest stop about the 65 mile mark.  The stretch from about mile 50 or so to mile 70 is BRUTAL!!  I seriously thought I was finished at that point.  Thank goodness for the pickle juice, I’m sure you’ll hear more about that later.  According to his computer we were pedaling about 8 hours.  Total duration with rest stops about 11 hours.  The other faster climbers (Starbucks group) I assume finished much earlier.  I know for sure at least one of them was about 1 hour ahead of us; we caught up with him at his second stop at the Riverplace rest stop while on our first stop there.  I didn’t hear of anybody dropping out.

I’m pleased to report that I also achieved my secondary goal to not just finish, but to climb straight up every hill (no walking, no meandering side to side) and I also just realized something at the start … this is technically my first century ride!  J

Oh, and the weather could not have been more perfect … about 59 at start, warming up into the 80’s.  A good night’s sleep and a 3 hour nap this afternoon and I’m a new man.  Lol

Cheers!

I'm the fellow CFC "Slow climber" - all true haha. Brad (faster
climber) met up with us at the duel directional rest stop. Of course
he was headed the other direction. Here is the pickle stuff mentioned
by Robert, http://www.goldenpicklejuice.com/?pjsid=1 It tasted really
bad the first time. However, after I started thinking it was helping
it got considerably smoother ;-) & no cramping once I started swilling
the stuff (I did go to Academy and buy 6 bottles today).

I have to admit a pretty satisfied feeling when completing the ride.
It is all about survival and pacing yourself (at least it was for me).
Conserving energy and doling it out in as few places as possible.

Four observations...
I don't plan on riding Beauford on a voluntary basis again if I can
help it..
Smokey Valley won't get the best of me next time.
Jester was kind of anticlimactic.. guess i just built it up to be a
lot harder (which made it easier)
I was laughing about how happy we were to be riding out to the dam and
back... thinking oh thank you... a easy hill to rest on;-)

I want to thank the riders at CFC for helping me become a better rider
this past year.

David

Ah yes! And of course I hope you know that I meant slower as in slower
"like me". LOL I'm glad you were there and that we got to encourage each
other to finish. I'm not sure I'd have made it past the first Riverplace
rest stop otherwise.

David,

Congratulations on finishing one of the most difficult single day
rides in the country. That's awesome. For me the ride is really hard
but so much fun it makes it all worth while. Again congratulations on
a stellar accomplishment.

Thanks Matt, I'm glad I got to see you all at the start.. I knew that
would be the only time that day haha. I heard you had a very good ride/
time - So kuddo's to you also! I know it was hard for everyone, so
I'll quote Greg Lemond "It never gets any easier you just go faster"
or something like that.

I'm looking forward to another shot at Smokey Mountain

Does anybody have a tandom I could borrow for a ride on this Sunday?  Preferably one that would fit a 10 year old girl in the back.  This will be my daughter’s inaugural tandom ride, and aimed at determining if she likes it enough to do the Wurst ride together.  J

Cheers!

Is there a medium paced ride out of Cedar Park tomorrow morning?  Maybe the CFC group out Round Mountain to Liberty Hill and back?
