Sharmistha Chaudhuri posted in CBC - CROYDON BENGALI CONNECTION Sharmistha Chaudhuri 11 February 10:42 heartbreaking and devastating news from India: First, about the Allahabad rail station stampede that killed more than 40 people, in which state govt., central govt., and rail has denied any responsibility. help arrived late, and people were allowed to die on the platforms.  I have a personal experience of a near stampede at howrah station, couple of years back, when two packed train at peak hours entered on the both sides of a platform already overpacked with people, half of which were army men with their trunks and equipments. Surely, these are avoidable, and innocent lives could be saved. Second, I am not challenging Govt`s decision about Afzal Guru being hanged, but not informing his family before that in absolutely unfair.
