Stepping on Two
It was not long ago since we contemplated CBC for first time to nurture and pass rich Bengali cultural heritage and tradition onto our next generation. Initially started as wishful thinking of a few individuals CBC soon matured into a focal point of the Bengalis in and around Croydon. After an eventful first year CBC is now stepping into its second year with the worship of Goddess Saraswati. In its second year CBC has grown out of its infant stage and she is rather a toddler now-- amazingly, CBC can walk on her own feet and making its presence felt in Croydon. With strong will power of its members CBC could successfully overcome initial pangs associated with birth. Bengalis from South East London / Croydon has worked hand in hand, shoulder to shoulder to make its journey a success story. To celebrate this commitment and the team spirit of its members theme for CBC in this year is Teamwork!
Coming together is a beginning.
Keeping together is progress.
Working together is success.
CBC is growing every day, and our total member count is 150 now, We have successfully launched our bank account. We also have a logo which associates symbol of Croydon, Croydon Clock Tower and Howrah Bridge, the epitome of Bengal – two symbolic landmarks which encapsulates our goal in a subtle way..
Last year we had a very successful Saraswati Puja. We had a Sun shower on a hot August day trip to Woburn park, ate luchi tarkari sitting on a green carpet of bright fresh grass, we have enjoyed vertical glamour of giraffes, elephant shows, dolphin dances and so many more on that day as well as increasing cohesiveness within our community.
We managed to establish partnership with other Bengali organisations. Joint Brochure for Durgapuja 2012 was published with Prabashi Bangali Utsav. CBC is a part of first ever initiative to bring all Bengali Cultural Organisations across UK under the unified umbrella. Finally in our second year we are presenting our Saraswati Puja souvenir for the first time. This publication which is a show case of commitment and have contributions from some eminent personalties of London and Croydon as well as our little ones covering a broad range of topics. We could also manage to involve varieties of Businesses who actively came forward to help us and in return get the benefit of access to a targeted audience for their products. An organisation like this needed a dedicated team for its success. Without commitment and hard work from our members and cooperation and help from wider communities we could not have achieved our success. We must take the opportunity to extend our heartfelt thanks and gratitude to all our sponsors, all adults and children who tirelessly rehearsed throughout last few weeks for the cultural programme, and to all those members and non-members who have contributed directly or indirectly in organising this big event.
Finaly we also like to Honourable Member of Parliament Mr. Gavin Barwell and Councillor Vidhi Mohan to be with us on the day of Saraswai Puja and wishing us all the success.
On the auspicious occasion of Vasant Panchami , We pray to goddess of learning so that we can laugh, love, float, sing, sink and stay awake in Bengali language, and culture. May Bengali becomes the quench of thirst for our children for another thousand years!

Saradadi
I have shortened the English version to fit in the pages as requested. It is around 400 words ( original was around 560). Forgive me for editing some of the beautiful lines you originally written , I sat with it for hours thinking how to keep the essence while scissoring it L. I could imagine how long you spend writing it. So please pardon me...
The outline and essence is the same. Few of the amendments
1. Shortened the origin section. Last year was so eventful for each of us, mostly good and some bad , so kept the light away from it to avoid anyone linking any
2. Haven’t given the actual numbers of the members to make it in line with what we said to sponsors also keeping in mind a pitch better next year.
3. Removed the bank account info, although it is very important thing especially considering last years events , it is not important enough to keep it in the editors column I thought
4. As we have MPs and councillors and british sponsors to think about , done a refocus on the audience of this souvenir, we would have to talk about integration very much while promoting ethnic culture and heritage. A tricky subject when Politicians are involved. So added a line at the end and I think it is important for us too...

It was not long ago since we contemplated CBC for the first time, a platform to nurture and pass rich Bengali cultural heritage and tradition onto our next generation. CBC is now stepping into its second year with the worship of Goddess Saraswati. CBC has grown out of its infant stage, making its presence well-known, connecting Bengalis from all around South East London.
We celebrate the commitment and team spirit of its members. An organisation like this needed a dedicated team for its success. We could not have achieved our success without the commitment and hard work from our members and cooperation from wider communities. “Coming together is a beginning. Keeping together is progress. Working together is success “.
CBC is now a strong organisation. Our Logo encapsulates our goal, The two symbolic landmarks (The Clock Tower, a symbol of Croydon and Howrah Bridge, the epitome of Bengal ) brings the essence of CBC, our passion to bring together the best of both.
Last year we had a very successful Saraswati Puja, the inaugural event for CBC. We had a relaxing summer day trip to Woburn safari increasing cohesiveness within our community. Benu Beena : Tuning together : Draft 3
The term BenuBeena is associated with the accord of 2 very different musical instruments yet makes beautiful music together. It brings together the sweetness of flute and the melody of strings. It symbolically represents the divine presence of Krishna and Saraswati as one and most importantly the harmony of life itself. If you could set your mind free, keep your conscience clear and let your heart open you could see that magic of life...
This Benu Beena is an attempt to embrace that positive energy of togetherness into our very own existence. This souvenir is the celebration of this great aspect of life and togetherness at CBC. We intend to make as much companionship as possible in the journey of life, share the little things we gathered along the way. The sweet language we first learned, the songs we heard and stored in our heart, the colourful festivals we enjoyed, the great traditions we loved to follow through, the values we like to pass on to the next generation, the memories we like to cherish. Here is that platform, to make a home away from home... a stage for little things in life. We present BenuBeena : Let us tune together to make a beautiful symphony...
Benu Beena : Tuning together – Draft 2
There are only few things in this world as beautiful and divine as music. It exists in every element of nature and every form of life. It binds us together to the greater force of universe, an integral part of the grand scheme of things... Benu Beena is an attempt to embrace that positive energy of togetherness into our very own existence. As the name suggests it bring together the sweetness of flute and the melody of strings, a great representation of the harmony of life, the way it is intended by the nature. If you could set your mind free, keep your conscience clear and let your heart open you could see the magic of life as clear as the blue sky and as inviting as the moon light.
We wish to celebrate this great aspect of life and togetherness at CBC. We intend to make as much companionship as possible in the journey of life, share the little things we gathered along the way. The sweet language we first learned, the songs we heard and stored in our heart, the colourful festivals we enjoyed, the great traditions we loved to follow through, the values we like to pass on to the next generation, the memories we like to cherish....
