Good evening…
Three weeks into the 4th quarter, many students seem to think the year is over.
A large number of students did not turn in 2 or more assignments for the Manifest Destiny chapter we just finished. Not as many students turned in exam study guides as usual and fewer students attended last week's study session - and the test grades reflect that. Almost 1/2 of regents students have not returned signed 3rd quarter grades - so I hope you have been able to get on Parent Portal to check grades.
At least 30 students have not completed or uploaded their Comic Life project - a quiz grade assignment that I am extending only to Wednesday. A large number of students did not turn in their DBQ that was due today - another quiz grade. They have been told that for each school day it is late, I am deducting 10 points. This is very important practice for part of their final exam in May. Failure to complete one or both of these assignments will be hard to overcome in the remaining 5 weeks of instruction.
I am available most days during 5th and 6th periods if your student wants to see me for extra help or if he/she has any questions. I'm an "early bird," so you can drop your student off before school, as well - just give me a heads-up on what day. Additionally, I will stay this Wednesday to work with any student who wants to join me after school. Finally, I will pass out a 4th quarter extra credit project (7R) with the 5-week progress report, like I did for the first 3 marking periods.
Please check in with your student and, as always, email me with any questions or concerns. All of the teachers on 7 Green provide plenty of opportunities for students to succeed. The only thing we can't do is to do the work for them. Thank you for your continued support.
