What emerging technologies have you learned about that seem to hold
possibilities for your content area or classroom? What are some
possible ways you could use these technologies to support 21st
century
teaching and learning in your school or classroom? What
technologies
are you curious about and why?
The gaming segment was new territory for me. Sue W, I'll be curious
to see what the students in the gaming program are developing and
whether they agree on the potential for global change via games. I'm
finding the comments posted by viewers online help me to see other
sides of the issue/argument even though I am impressed with the
presentation.
Emerging technologies for the library/media center would include
handheld devices with subject specific apps, as well as e-readers. I
would like to generate more interest in reading for information AND
for pleasure. We (educators) are all competing for the limited time
students have available, much of it used for social networking. I see
students in all grades from pre-K to 8, and I am investigating more
ways to support the reading/writing connection using technology, and
developing differentiated units around the 3 themes chosen for grades
7 & 8. We have also been charged with incorporating more technology
into the 7 sections we cover weekly while literacy, math, and 21st
Century teachers have common planning time (up from 4 sections last
year. We will also be teaching 4 sections during "Band Plus" time--
kids who aren't in band. So I'm curious about any technology which
will engage these learners, address their specific learning styles and
strengths, and not drive myself crazy learning, teaching, staying
current and running the rest of the library.
So far I like the program which allows you to create online books for
sharing (good for olders and youngers) and Shelfari for grades 4-7, to
promote discussion and appropriate networking around books and a love
of reading.
