A lot of vague discussion took place. I will try to summarize it as I took it on my part:
1] It started with a question that how many students from iit pursue their career in science, whether they should do so, whether they should do so for their society or not. Some were of the opinion that going to finance is sort of brain drain. Later many agreed that it is not very important that if we do our career in Finance or science, but more important that we should do it in interest of society (people of other opinions were not present). Since the last point was not opposed, we discussed on why then students in iit are not doing it for society (the trend of returning from abroad is increasing though). Is it that we don't care abt each other? Some were of the opinion that it is not the case, while others debated that we can observe it in IIT itself. Some were for the view that the interaction which we have in iit with each other is enough, and this was debated. We ended this when it got into philosophy.
2] There was a concern that the name GRA constrains the activities that we do, and that we do a lot of activities which are not related to rural areas. This will become a barrier for those who are interested solely in rural activities. So it was debated if we should start a new forum, and if yes, what should be the structure of that forum. More people were in the favour of starting it.
3] It is important to mention that the sole reason for starting the new forum is that GRA should be open for everybody. It is not influenced by the fact that some fellow students have bad impression for other activities that we do. We simply do not give any importance to such views of others.
4] Read Vishnu's blog and comment on it.
The theme for next discussion is that "what should we do to reach out to other people to make them aware of our views towards society".
Of course others who were present will like to add/modify my points. Everyone is welcome.
