you have to be online to use this app?

I have used this app for a while now and have loved it. My primary use of it is when I am on the subway each day, where I have no network connection whatsoever. Thus, the new requirement that I be online to use the app makes it close-to-useless to me. Is there a way to cache the ads when I am online to display them when I'm not? I would also be happy to pay a small amount to eliminate the ads and the online requirement, but I don't see such an option.

I have this same problem even when I am online I get this message.
Seems to have started with
the update to the app for froyo or with the app and froyo itself...not
sure
on that one.
