Hi All,

Jolandi and I met with the GK Academic Officer, Licel, this morning.

Minutes are distelled to the following:
We will be holding a TDU/GK Election Debate on the 19th of March. A BP debate will take place with and open floor at the end and possibly a small prize for the winners.
TDU: provide adjudicators; motion; some speakers; chair debate; training on the 13th for GK members if they want to speak; advertising on Facebook; Twitter and to members.
GK: organize venue; campus advertising; some speakers; snacks if they so desire; awards if they so desire; advertising on Facebook; Twitter and to members.
Together: make joint posters/certificates.

Ansuya: please start thinking about and compiling a list of possible motions. The idea is for it to be human rights themed/political themed with perhaps a focus on elections (she really liked having it about elections) It is going to be released beforehand and we want to attract a lot of people. Please have this done by latest Monday morning so we can send a list through to them and reach consensus with the motion to start rolling ahead with advertising.
If anyone has good ideas about possible motions please send contribute them.

Regards,
Christopher Hojem

Hi all,

The following are motions pertaining to voting and rights analysis

THW make voting compulsory
THW require all voters to pass a test before qualifying to vote
THW give the poor additional votes
THW give the youth additional votes

Let me know if you need anything else

Best,
Ansuya

What do you think of THW make votes inversely proportional to income.

I prefer the latter motion. We ran it in Turkey and it was cool :)

But I'm happy with the others. My least favourite on is the more votes for the youth one. It's a bit icky.

THW make votes inversely proportional to wealth.
THW implement a technocracy in South Africa.
THW ensure party lists compromise of 50% male and 50% female candidates.
THW implement gender quotas in Parliament.
THW have separate democratic elections for the election of Constitutional Court Judges.
THBT a strong dictatorship is better than a weak democracy.
