Greetings Hashers,

Another year is rapidly coming to an end.  It was so nice to see the world has opened up again for hashing worldwide, and it has been great to see many of you again.  There were 165 known multi-day scheduled hash events around the world in 2023 . . . and 2024 is already shaping up to beat that, as 40 events have already been posted to the calendar.  If you want to get a jump on the rego process, check out the listing of upcoming events at https://www.gotothehash.net/hashevents.html

Hope to see many of you in New Zealand in March . . . see the latest from the INTERHASH committee below.

ON ON MAGAZINE

The year end edition of Shakesprick’s ON ON Magazine has been released, and available at http://gotothehash.net/history/shakes.html

--------------------------------------

Last month I started out by discussing the origins of Paper Chase / Hare & Hounds, as a childhood game at rugby school or other institutions of higher learning.  And mentioned that such a club was still in existence at the Portlethen Academy in Scotland.  It just so happens I was in Scotland this week, and although I was not permitted to run with the school children, I was allowed to help pre-lay the trail with the founder, Sarah ‘Fireflaps’ Newman-Holden.  18 young hashers were able to run the trail, and enjoyed the nearly 5 km trail through the local countryside.  I feel honored to have had this privilege to share in a piece of history.  It is cold up there, so I have no idea what I was thinking . . . nearly froze my tiny toosh off.

Thought for the day . . . A closed mouth gathers no foot.

INTERHASH NEW ZEALAND 2024

Kia Ora

This Interhash will welcome about 2,000 hashers from 50 countries. A good size for Queenstown, a small city with the atmosphere of an alpine village (pop 15,000).

Registration, Red Dress Run and the Buses departure point for trails will all be downtown Queenstown. The evening venue - Queenstown Events Centre - is located in Frankton, near the airport. Distance between both locations is 7km.

Shuttle buses

We will provide transport to the venue and back on Friday, Saturday and Sunday evening between 6PM and 12AM. The journey will take about 15 minutes one-way. You could also take a taxi or a nearby public bus, unless you fancy a long walk.

Calling for volunteers
We’ll need brains and/or muscles for helping at registration and the venue (set-up, bar, food, moving stuff). Feel like giving back to the hash? Here below is your chance to become part of HHHistory. Please only select one task/timeslot (4 hours).

To volunteer on SignUpGenius (link below) first select the task and timeslot by clicking on the corresponding Sign Up button to the right. Then click on Save and Continue at the bottom of your screen. On the next page fill in your name and e-mail address then confirm by clicking on Sign Up Now. You’re done, have a beer!

Beer, cider and wine

This month will see a major milestone when we order 20,000 litres of beer and cider as well as 2,000 litres of wine plus some water and softies. As usual the main issue is to convince the reseller that we actually DO drink that much. So we hope you’ll make us proud and guzzle everything - your challenge!
