In the Spotlight – The Beginning, How and Where the Hash House Harriers were Founded

It has been over a year now since I last published an article on hash history. This time last year, I took a pause and focused on wrapping up the manuscript for my book . . . TRUE TRAIL – How Hashing Migrated Around the World. It included the best information I could find at the time, but certainly not perfect. There is always a new leaf to turn over, another rock hiding details yet to be seen.
The book was published back in Nov 2025, and I decided to take a break and catch up on various other things, like website updates, and travel hashing. I have recently decided to slow down and stay in one place with a little more regularity, so I rented a condo in Bangkok and have applied for a long term pensioner’s visa. I’ll still be traveling, but a bit more focused. Having done that, I was immediately appointed the HonSec for the Bangkok H3. While writing up my weekly Hash Trash, I have been including a segment on History’s Mysteries, explaining various elements of HHH History. So that has inspired me to start researching again, and thus this new spotlight article. https://www.gotothehash.net/history/ItS-InTheBeginning-HashHouseHarriers.pdf
It is surely just dribble to the average $5 hasher, but one or two of you out there might find it interesting.
I guess this is the start of an overall update to the book, the Second Edition. Until then, you can buy the book, or see many more articles like this on the history of hashing at . . . http://gotothehash.net/history/inthespotlight.html
