"Well, let's get to it then..."  It takes another 30 minutes for the pair to finish unloading the Kobold and storing the cargo out of the way.  "I'm going to head up to the control room, whenever you're ready to launch let me know and I'll drop you in the airlock."

The ship returns to zero-g when the main engines cut out.  Cohen arrives in the hangar bay a few minutes later.  He retrieves one of the spare Vacc Suits from the hangar bay control room and then continues down the ladder to the main hangar deck.  He heads over to Jorgensen, "I've been sent to help out... what exactly is it we're doing here?"

Jorgensen quickly replies, "Understood, Sergeant."

He then moves toward the hangar bay where the Kobold that he previously unloaded (partially?) sits; contacting Cohen along the way and telling him to meet him there.

IC: Emma Pope

Location: Control Center

All Emma could think of, hearing the crew’s chatter was: great, more civilians. But they were her doing. She had ordered them brought around, and for a good reason. No matter how fussy or fragile they may be, she needed them. She needed a crew.

Emma came flying over the rows of console, heading for the planning table. The ease with which she moved through zero gravity spoke loudly of a mix of training and natural grace.

“That would be me, Miss.”

When she came to the table, she grabbed the edges and pulled herself down, the tip of her toes barely touching the floor.

“And who might you be?” said Riggs, frowning a bit.

Emma’s eyes were riveted on the table. When she spoke she didn’t lift them up. Her forehead was slightly creased as she absorbed new information.

“Staff Sergeant Pope, USMC.” she stated in her usual matter of fact tone, giving the assembled skeleton crew a nod.

Her eyes peered up at the men and women assembled around her. Even though they could probably glean all the information they needed from the planning table, Emma nonetheless gave them a rapid debriefing on the situation. Current status of the ship, the damage they had suffered, their current position, the issue of Gary Larson, etc…

She straightened herself up as best as she could, speaking in a confident tone that left very little room for discussion.

“Now, some of you might not take kindly to being ordered around. Frankly, I don’t give a damn right now. If you’re not happy with things, you’re welcome to go back to the freeze, aye?”

Emma, now convinced she had everyone’s attention, and that she had clearly established who was calling the shots, continued.

Carter; I want you to jettison the broken tank. Now. We can’t afford to have additional debris hit the hull, or the other tanks.”

Riggs; I need to know if the magsail is a total lost, and how much of a hazard it can become. If we can salvage it, how risky would it be, and what would you need?”

Ferguson; once we’ve jettisons the broken tank, and if the magsail doesn’t prove to be a hazard, I need you to slow us down a bit. Keep a general heading towards Ceti Alpha 2 and 3. Check the fuel levels, and give me a rough estimate of our manoeuvring capabilities.

Taylor; I need you to run a full diagnostic on all our comm gear. We’ve suffered some damage… I want to know what work and what doesn’t.”

Holt; start drawing us approach courses for Ceti Alpha 2, 3 and 4.”

Rojas; I need you to get us detailed scans of all three habitable planets.”

Ratliff and Sharon; I need the two of your to analyze the data we’ve collected from our previous scans of the Alpha Ceti system, as well as any data Rojas will have. I need to know which of the three planets would be best suited for colonisation.”

Emma was about to turn her attention away from the two scientist when she stopped.

“And I need those reports yesterday. Clear?”

She continued.

McCarty and Hanson; I need you two to start prepping the living quarters. Once you’re done with that, feel free to prep the kitchen and mess hall. We’ve all got jobs to do, but I bet someone will get hungry at some point.” She added, without a single hint of playfulness in her voice.

Grabbing the smartphone attached to her tactival vest, Emma contacted Jorgensen.

“Good job Jorgensen. Start prepping one of the Kobold Work Bug for a space sortie. I’m sending Cohen to give you a hand. Get in touch with him.”

Finally, Emma contacted Dr. Canada.

Doctor, I need a status report. Have you located Major Foss?”

Emma breathed a sigh of relief from hearing's Jorgensen voice.

"Out into the black Jorgensen. I need you to go to fuel tank 3, and check the extent of the damage, and start working on repair it."

"Yes, Sergeant."  Jorgensen replies, placing an emphasis on the last word well as he can.

Jorgensen then enters the Kobold.  Straping himself into the pilot's seat he transmits to Pope.

"Ready for launch, Sergeant."

Cohen returns to the control room and uses the robotic cargo system to lift the Kobold and place it in the airlock.  He seals the inner door and depressurizes the airlock.  He then opens up a channel directly from the control room to the Kobold, "I've got your headset tied in to the Kobold's radio, once you leave the airlock, you're stuck talking to me.  You're clear to launch whenever you're ready."  Cohen straps himself into a chair in the control room and closes his eyes.  Thinking to himself, "may as well get some rest now, I get the feeling someone's going to be keeping us busy."

Jorgensen replies, "Launching now."

He then slowly guides the Kobold out of the airlock and into open space.

Once free of the ship, he reports, "Airlock clear."

Jorgensen then manuvers the Kobold into the vicinity of the damaged fuel tank, thankful that he doesn't have to deal with the acceleration, albet small, of the fusion rocket.  He's confident that he could deal with it, but it would be a complication that is best avoided.

Once he reached the fuel tank, he begins to inspect the damage to it.

Is there a camera of some sort on the front of the Kobold, that could be used to transmit pictures to the control room?

Yes, I'll need both a Eletronics Operation (Sensors) or (Surveillance) roll, as well as an Electronics Operation (Communications) roll.

You're qualified to actually do the repairs, just not to relay pictures to the control room.  The Bellerophon is for all intents and purposes, a Low Performance Spaceship.  Mechanic (LPS) qualifies you to work on just about anything on the ship unless it's a highly specialized system like the control systems of the Hibernation Pods, the Magsail, or some of the sensors and other gear.  For anything else mechanical, a Mechanic (LPS) roll is all you need.

Upon completing his inspection, Jorgensen reports.

"First task, secure tank to ship.  Time about two hours.  Then can repair perhaps half of tank.  Time about five hours.  Two other tanks dented, but appear intact."

Cohen startles awake.  "One more time Jorgensen, I... you were breaking up."  Cohen gets the repeated message and relays it on to Pope.  "Dion, can you take over the channel to the Kobold?  I'd like to get out of this control room."  When Dion takes over the communications channel between the ship and the Kobold, Cohen heads off to retrieve his gear from the hibernation room.

Still holding the edge of the planning table, mostly to keep herself in place, Emma nodded to Cohen.

"Very well. Inform Jorgensen that he has the go ahead to start securing the damaged tank to the ship."

Dion relays the message to Jorgensen.

Ratliff and Sharon report that they've been able to determine additional information about Ceti Alpha II with an additional sensor scan.  Ceti Alpha II has a large moon, which Sharon indicates is usually considered a prerequisite for complex life.  Ratliff informs the group that Ceti Alpha II is larger than Earth, but should have a comparable surface gravity.  Ceti Alpha IIa on the other hand is approximately the size of Earth's moon, but with a surface gravity of about .3G.  Any additional information is likely to require continuous sensor scans over a period of several days.

Is the explosion some distance from the ship, or right next to it?

For how long has Jorgensen been working on the fuel tank?

For how long can the Kobold operate without returning to the hangar bay?

The explosion appeared to come from the Hangar module, but you weren't looking directly at it when it happened so you're not sure.  You've been working on the tank for an hour at this point.  The Kobold has life support for 3 person days.  One person for three days, or three people for one day.

To Jorgensen: "Jorgensen, I need you over there on the double.  Find Pope and get her inside."

Canada snapped to action.  “Compton, Donovan, Cook, get ready, Emma Pope is coming in hot and it looks like she’s been exposed to radiation.  Everyone get on your radiation suits.  Fields, make sure the equipment is set for radiation conditions.”  With that, Canada went and retrieved radiation suits for all of the medical crew.

Canada contacted the major.  “We’re in the Habitat 5 sickbays, standing by for Pope.”
