In 2012, more than 6.6 million children under the age of five died from vaccine-preventable diseases. Since its inception in 2000, the GAVI Alliance has immunized an additional 440 million children against leading vaccine-preventable diseases in the world's poorest countries, preventing approximately 6 million future deaths.
