UNICEF Notification

Pre-registration now open until 18 July for civil society attendance at UNGA High-Level Meeting on the 25th Anniversary of the Adoption of the Convention on the Rights of the Child.

Dear Civil Society,

This year marks the 25th anniversary of the adoption of the Convention on the Rights of the Child. On this occasion, the General Assembly passed a resolution to organize a high-level meeting, taking place in New York on 20 November 2014.

This is a critical moment to take stock of progress, suggest ways to bridge implementation gaps and make a strong call to make the vision of the Convention a reality for all children, as well as to highlight innovative approaches that can transform the lives of children everywhere.

The event will consist of a morning opening session as well as an interactive panel discussion in the afternoon that will:

1)  take stock of the progress that has been achieved for children since 1989;

2)  identify main challenges in realizing the rights of the child including discrimination and inequalities in the progress made; and

3)  look to the future from different perspectives, including children, governments and civil society, and consider the best ways to address these challenges as the international community moves into the next 25 years of the CRC.

Who can register:

As per the resolution, civil society organizations with ECOSOC status or that are in a collaborative relationship or partnership with UNICEF, academics and private sector actors may pre-register.

Kindly note that due to space constraints, a maximum of 3 representatives of each organization is permitted.

How to register:

ECOSOC-accredited organizations may pre-register your representatives by clicking on this link and following the instructions
here.

Non-ECOSOC accredited organizations that are in a collaborative relationship or partnership with UNICEF may pre-register directly with UNICEF by filling out this form.

The deadline for pre-registration is 18 July 2014, 5 PM EST.

For important additional information on the pre-registration and approval process, please visit this page.

Any questions should be addressed to: cr...@unicef.org
