A second eighteen members medic and relief team of Taiwan Buddhist Compassion
Relief Tzu Chi Foundation (Tzu Chi) arrived at Yogyakarta at 9
AM via air on
the morning of 28 May. Six volunteers, five doctors, six nurses and one
pharmacist, together with the head of the Tzu Chi Free Clinic Centre, Dr
Kurnianwan, the relief team heads toward the main disaster area to provide
medical assistances and surveying the needs of the Earthquake victims.
Current media reports indicate over 3,000 people killed after the 6.3 Earthquake struck Yogyakarta and the surrounding area around 6 AM on the 27 May 2006, the worst affected area being the Bantul province.
Just six hours after the temblor struck, Indonesian Tzu Chi volunteers started to formulate relief actions and started preparing emergency relief aids. Just 15 hours after the Earthquake struck, the first six members Tzu Chi relief team left Jakarta, heading toward Yogyakarta to bring in emergency relief and medical aids.
The relief aids consist of 980 blankets, 100 tents, 400 first aid family kits, 5,240 masks, 1,500 boxes of biscuits, 5 electrical generators, 40 large boxes of medical goods including 28 boxes of IV drip and 63 boxes of family medicine.
The Indonesian Tzu Chi branch is working closely with local authorities and will be reporting back survey results every four hours.
