The Cancer Imaging Archive Updates : June 2024

TCIA at the SIIM 2024 Annual Meeting

The TCIA team taught a Data Curation Learning Lab at this year’s Society for Imaging Informatics in Medicine (SIIM) Annual Meeting.

TCIA data are also being featured as part of the hybrid 2024 SIIM Hackathon, which allows participants to leverage Hackathon resources to build and test homegrown applications. The SIIM Hackathon Dataset is one of the resources provided to participants. It leverages TCIA's DICOM images as part of fictitious, but believable, narratives that illustrate common concepts and technologies used in radiology to provide a cohesive, rich dataset that will allow people to build interesting applications. Participants highlighted their work during the 2024 Hackathon Showcase at the SIIM Annual Meeting. Videos of completed Hackathon presentations are available here.

New and Updated Collections

HNC-IMRT-70-33

"CT-RTSTRUCT-RTDOSE-RTPLAN Sets of Head and Neck Cancers Treated with Identical Prescriptions using IMRT: An Open Dataset for Deep Learning in Treatment Planning (HNC-IMRT-70-33)" is now available on TCIA. The dataset contains data from 211 patients who presented with head and neck cancer and underwent radiation therapy at a single institution. The treatment modality used was 6 MV Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT) delivered via a linear accelerator. For each patient, the dataset includes the planning computed tomography (CT) image set from treatment simulation, the expert-defined radiotherapy structure set (RTSTRUCT), the delivered radiotherapy plan file (RTPLAN), and the calculated treatment dose (RTDOSE). The dataset notably offers consistent treatment plans with minimal variance due to the uniformity in tumor site, adherence to institutional standards, and identical prescription protocols.

CPTAC

New data related to rare renal cell carcinomas has been published on TCIA. The National Cancer Institute’s Clinical Proteomic Tumor Analysis Consortium (CPTAC) conducted an integrated multi-omic analysis of 48 non-ccRCC cases along with a previously reported clear cell RCC (ccRCC) discovery cohort. Imaging for 39 subjects can be accessed on TCIA’s CPTAC-CCRCC page.

TCIA Updates

Panorama

The PANORAMA Grand Challenge includes TCIA’s “Healthy Pancreas CT” collection as part of the data in the first international reader study and AI grand challenge  that compares state-of-the-art AI algorithms against abdominal radiologists to evaluate the clinical viability of modern pancreas-AI solutions at pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma detection and diagnosis in abdominal contrast-enhanced computed tomography.

TotalSegmentator segmentations and radiomics features for NLST CTs

AI-generated segmentations and radiomics features are available for TCIA’s National Lung Screening Trial dataset. The Imaging Data Commons team applied TotalSegmentator and Pyradiomics to 126,088 CT series from TCIA's dataset to segment a total of 9,565,554 anatomic structures and compute first order radiomics features.
